Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." - Jack Torrance, typing (1980)

Answer: The Shining

Accompanied by his wife and son, Jack Torrance has taken the job of winter caretaker for the Overlook Hotel. He sees this as an opportunity for him to put some of his past behind him, and get on with writing his novel. However the hotel is possessed, and Jack is soon drawn into its inherent evil. Jack's wife finds pages of this line typed over, and over, and over again, instead of the novel she thought he'd been writing.
2. "How do you write women so well? - Receptionist "Easy - I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability." - Melvin Udall (1997)

Answer: As Good As It Gets

Melvin is a successful writer who suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Once they get to know him, people have a hard time resolving his offensive, abrasive nature with the beautiful romance that he writes. This exchange takes place between Melvin and a receptionist at his publisher's who doesn't know him yet.
3. "They was giving me ten thousand watts a day you know, and I'm hot to trot. The next woman takes me on is gonna light up like a pinball machine and pay off in silver dollars." - Randle Patrick McMurphy (1975)

Answer: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Sent to jail for statutory rape, McMurphy believes that it will be easier to serve his time if he can spend it in an insane asylum. What he doesn't figure on is going head to head with Nurse Ratched, who prefers to be in complete control of her ward, and isn't about to lose to McMurphy.

This remark was made after he comes back from a series of ECT treatments (Electro-Convulsive Therapy), prescribed as a form of punishment for stirring things up.
4. "You're insane!" - Vicki Vale "I thought I was a Pisces." - Joker (1989)

Answer: Batman

After he fell (or was dropped) into a vat of chemicals, petty criminal Jack Napier got a whole lot more dangerous, and a whole lot crazier. He's set his sights on killing Batman, and wooing the beautiful Vicki Vale, who doesn't really want to have much to do with him!
5. "In Europe it's not considered unusual for three or four men to share a bed." - Dr. Buddy Rydell "That's why I'm proud to be an American." - David Buznik (2003)

Answer: Anger Management

Sentenced by the courts to intensive anger management therapy, Buznik is dismayed to find that his very unorthodox therapist plans on temporarily moving in with him. When he protests that he only has one bed, the above conversation ensues.
6. "I run my unit how I run my unit. You want to investigate me, roll the dice and take your chances. I eat breakfast 300 yards from 4000 Cubans who are trained to kill me, so don't think you can come down here, flash a badge and make me nervous!" - Col. Nathan Jessup (1992)

Answer: A Few Good Men

Assigned to defend two marines accused of killing a comrade, Lt. Daniel Kaffee goes to Cuba to interview their commanding officer, Jessup. What they find is an extremely arrogant man who, they eventually discover, actually delivered the order that resulted in the marine's death.
7. "My daughter is in pain. I don't understand why she has to have this pain. All she has to do is hold out until after ten, and IT'S PAST TEN! My daughter is in pain, can't you understand that? GIVE MY DAUGHTER THE SHOT!" - Aurora Greenway (1983)

Answer: Terms of Endearment

Aurora and her daughter Emma have been at loggerheads, pretty much since Emma was born. But when Emma is diagnosed with cancer, Aurora becomes the mother that she always was in her heart, and fights to make her daughter's last days as easy as possible. This was a very powerful line, delivered in the hospital near the end of Emma's illness, when the pain was excessive.
8. "There is no chance, no untried operation. All hope lies with him and none with me. Imagine though the shock from isolation, when he suddenly can hear and speak and see." - sung by the Specialist (1975)

Answer: Tommy

The Who's rock opera "Tommy" was made into a movie that contained no dialogue, only singing, which worked fine when the characters were played by members of the group. The Specialist (played by Nicholson) was the doctor who they took Tommy to for tests, and while his singing abilities were far from wonderful, they weren't nearly as bad as those of Oliver Reed, who played Tommy's stepfather.
9. "You want me to hold the chicken, huh?" - Waitress "I want you to hold it between your knees." - Bobby (1970)

Answer: Five Easy Pieces

A classic story about going back to what you've run away from, this movie tells the tale of an angry young man returning to the upper class family he'd left behind, to deal with an aging and ill father. This scene happens when he's in a diner and asks for an order of plain toast.

When told that he can't have an order of toast because it's not on the menu, he orders a chicken sandwich and tells the waitress to hold everything, except the toast part!
10. Now for the bonus question. Which actor/actress appeared in all of these movies: "Terms of Endearment", "Anger Management", "The Shining", "As Good As It Gets" and many others of these wonderful movies? (The quote may or may not have been delivered by this person.)

Answer: Jack Nicholson

Born on April 22, 1937 in Neptune, New Jersey, Nicholson has had a long and varied career. He's shown a great amount of range in his acting, showing a particular talent for comedy in his later work.
It wasn't until he was an adult, and a reporter from "Time" was doing some research on him that Jack learned that the woman he had always called his mother was in fact his grandmother, and that his "sister" was actually his mother.
