Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "The Out-of-Towners" was re-made with Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin. Jack Lemmon starred in the original; who was his co-star?

Answer: Sandy Dennis

Why would anyone re-make one of the worst movies of all time?
2. "The Last of the Mohicans" was re-made and starred Daniel Day-Lewis. Who starred in a prior version?

Answer: Randolph Scott

Not bad for an old movie. The newer version was beautifully photographed, but seemed a bit lifeless. (Lewis wasn't all that dynamic.)
3. "The Getaway" was re-made with Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger. Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw starred in the original; their co-stars were better known for steady roles in what two sitcoms?

Answer: All in the Family, Andy Griffith

Sally Struthers (who played Gloria in "Family") and Jack Dodson (who played Howard in "Griffith") played the husband and wife that were taken prisoner by the thug on the loose. The original was the better version.
4. "The Man Who Knew Too Much" was re-made with James Stewart in the lead. Who was his co-star?

Answer: Doris Day

"Que sera, sera." Good Hitchock movie.
5. "The Prisoner of Zenda" was re-made and starred Stewart Granger. Who was NOT in the cast of the prior version?

Answer: Leslie Howard

Colman was the star; Fairbanks played a scoundrel. Niven had a supporting role. The age is showing on the original; the later version has a bit more zest.
6. "Inherit the Wind" was a classic that starred Spencer Tracy and Fredric March. Who co-starred (along with Jack Lemmon) in the re-make?

Answer: George C. Scott

You can't improve on Tracy and March - so why bother to try? Mistake.
7. "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" was a sci-fi classic. The star of the original version made a cameo appearance in the re-make. Who was he?

Answer: Kevin McCarthy

Whitmore was in "Them". Nielsen was in "Forbidden Planet". Barry was in "War of the Worlds". Stay with the original.
8. "Heaven Can Wait" was a re-make of "Here Comes Mr. Jordan". Who was NOT in the cast of the Warren Beatty re-make?

Answer: Elliott Gould

Grodin was the diisloyal secretary. Gardenia was the cop. Warden was the football trainer. Buck Henry, Dyan Cannon and Julie Christie were also in the cast. The original (with Robert Montgomery) wasn't as good.
9. "Affair to Remember" was also re-made with Warren Beatty in the starring role. What was Cary Grant's hobby in the original?

Answer: Artist

He painted the picture that Deborah Kerr later bought (after her accident) and hung in her apartment. Stay with the original.
10. Hitchcock's "39 Steps" has been done a few times. Who starred in one of the versions?

Answer: Robert Donat

One of Hitchcock's favorites, but I can think of many that I prefer.
