Sydney feels guilty about keeping Pran there with him after Pran is captured by the Khmer Rouge and forced to work in their camps, aware that he will be killed if they find out he's an educated man. Haing S. Ngor won an Oscar for his portrayal of Pran.

Bentley becomes disgusted with Lawrence after the latter leads a massacre outside of Damascus.

Ethan Hawke plays William Knott. Because his name can be shortened to Will Knott, his army friends nickname him "Won't". He is the sergeant of an intelligence squad made of soldiers with high IQs. During the winter of 1944, his squad is sent on a reconnaissance mission in the Ardennes. There, they meet a small group of German soldiers who want to surrender.

"No Man's Land" is 2001 Bosnian film about the Bosnian War between the Bosniaks and Bosnian Serbs. Cera (Filip Sovagović) is a Bosniak soldier who can't move because he's lying on top of a mine, previously planted by Bosnian Serbs, that will go off if he moves. Not a pleasant scenario.

The 1993 film follows a group of German soldiers fighting in the WWII battle of the same name. Irina (Dana Vávrová) is a Russian soldier captured by one of the men, Witzland, whom she then escapes from. The main characters meet her later and eventually befriend her.
