Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The movie begins in the future, where only a handful of mutants still live. Which of the following is NOT still alive at this point?

Answer: Beast

Beast in 1973 asks Wolverine if he (Beast) is still alive in the future, and Wolverine says "no". Sounds like great motivation for Beast to help change that future!
2. Kitty Pryde sends Wolverine's consciousness back in time to avoid the disastrous chain of events that leads to the eventual annihilation of the mutants. Wolverine was chosen because he was the only one who could survive the process. Who was the original choice?

Answer: Professor X

As the plan was to return a mutant (preferably Professor X) to a 50-years-younger version of himself, there were only a few candidates to begin with. Magneto's past self was in prison, so sending him back would have been pointless even if he could survive it. Wolverine, on the other hand, is not just the only one who can survive the process, but also the only one who looks pretty much the same 50 years younger.
3. What pivotal event does Wolverine get sent back to change?

Answer: Mystique killing Trask

When Mystique killed Trask, she was caught, and her DNA was used to allow the mutant-killing sentinels to take on other mutants' powers. This was the tipping point in the war against the mutants, even if it did take another several decades for events to unfold.
4. Where does Wolverine wake up, in his 50-years-younger body?

Answer: In bed with a woman

The woman is apparently his boss's daughter, whom he is supposed to be guarding. Several thugs rush in and attack him with they see him in bed with her (her father is also their boss), and Wolverine originally tries to argue his way out of a fight by explaining that he's from the future. This doesn't go over so well.
5. What event triggers Wolverine to lose his grip on his past consciousness, and lash out with his claws in the future, accidentally stabbing Kitty Pryde?

Answer: Seeing William Stryker

Kitty warned him before he went back that he would have to keep his mind calm. Apparently, little things like being attacked, fighting, and nearly crashing in a plane don't upset him. Seeing the man who basically tortured him, though... that did it.
6. Who is the first mutant (that we know) that Wolverine encounters in the past?

Answer: Beast

Surprisingly, when Beast answers the door to Charles's mansion, he isn't blue, fanged, and furry. Even more surprisingly, Charles can walk! It turns out that Hank (Beast) created a serum that suppresses their mutant abilities and, as a bonus for Charles, overcomes his paralysis!
7. Who does Wolverine recruit to help bust Magneto out of prison?

Answer: Quicksilver

The scene where Quicksilver says to Magneto that his mom once knew someone who could control metal is a subtle reference to the fact that (in the comic books) Magneto is his father.
8. When we first see Mystique, she's impersonating a soldier in order to save a group of mutants. Who do we see in that group?

Answer: Havok

Azazel and Angel are definitely dead, and it's implied that Banshee is as well (his special suit, burned through, is on a wall next to Angel's wing and Magneto's helmet).
9. Mystique impersonates several people throughout the film, including the president, Richard Nixon. Who is the last person we see her impersonate?

Answer: William Stryker

After Wolverine is rescued from the water, he's released into Stryker's hands, which is pretty frightening, until we see that it's actually Mystique. I'm sure I'm not the only one left thinking, "Well, what does THAT mean?" She's not exactly a "bad guy" at this point, but it's impossible to know what she intends for Wolverine.
10. When Wolverine wakes in the future, his actions in the past have created a lot of changes. Which of the following is NOT one of those changes?

Answer: Magneto and Storm are married.

There is no indication that either Magneto or Storm is married, and certainly not to each other... although that could be interesting. As for the others, it looks like the future was definitely set on a much better track!
