Newton effectively used his life experiences to tell how God's grace changed him. Contrary to Anglican church tradition,he would often preach in large halls. He felt that the "psalms" in the "official church hymnal" were dry, so he would find heart-felt hymns that touched the emotions of his congregation. Soon he began writing such hymns. Newton, along with neighbor and author William Cowper, eventually wrote enough hymns to print "The Olney Hymnal".
8. "When we've been there __________________ years..."

10. "...we've no less days to sing _________ praise, than when we first begun."

Answer: God's

"Amazing Grace" is a great expression of John Newton's life. The hymn is based on part of King David's prayer in I Chronicles 17:16,17. "Who am I, O Lord God,and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? And as if this were not enough in your sight, O God, you have spoken about the future of the house of your servant. You have looked on me as though I were the most exalted of men, O Lord God." I hope you enjoyed this quiz.
