Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is another name for the Treble Clef?

Answer: The G Clef

It is named this because of where the treble clef is located in position to the staff. I learned that on Blue's Big Musical!
2. What are additional lines and spaces added on to a staff called?

Answer: ledger lines

Ledger lines are the proper name for lines that are above or below the staff.
3. In the time signature of 2/4, how many beats does a half note receive?

Answer: two

The four on the bottom is what the whole note receives, don't get it confused with cut time.
4. What connects two notes on the same pitch?

Answer: tie

A slur connects notes that are different pitches.
5. What connects two notes that are on different pitches if they are in two separate measures?

Answer: slur

A tie can connect notes that are the same pitch.
6. What is the name of the second space in the bass clef?

Answer: C

You number the spaces from the bottom up, so the second space would be named C.
7. How many notes are in a two octave major scale?

Answer: fifteen

A B C D E F G A B C D E F G A. Or DO RE MI FA SOL LA TI DO RE MI FA SOL LA TI DO. Even though 8 plus 8 make sixteen for a two octave scale, you wouldn't have two A's in a row in a scale.
8. Which of the following is not an accidental?

Answer: diminished

Diminished is a type of chord. Flats lower the pitch of a note one half step. A natural gets the pitch to the natural pitch, no matter what the key signature is. A sharp raises the pitch of a note one half step.
9. How do you number the lines and spaces on a staff?

Answer: Number the lines and spaces from the bottom up

From the bottom up. On the treble clef, the line numbered 1 would be E because it is the lowest note on the staff. The 2nd line would be , all the way to number 5, the top note of the staff. The same applies to bass clef (the lowest line, G, is called line 1, the top line, A, is line 5).
10. How many spaces are on a music staff?

Answer: four

There are four spaces on both the treble clef and the bass clef. On the treble clef, the spaces are named F,A,C,E. On the Bass clef, the spaces are named A,C,E,G.
