Prithvinarayan Shah lived from 1723 to 1775. He was the conquerer in 1769 of three kingdoms in the Kathmandu Valley (Kathmandu, Pata and Bhaktapur) which effectively united the country. Unfortunately, Nepal has suffered from periodic violence and war over the several centuries after his death.

The "Demoiselles d'Avignon" was completed in 1907, a painting that shocked the art world. Even Picasso's close friends were seriously forced to question his judgement by creating such a work. Picasso used techniques he learned from studying the work of C�zanne and combined them with ideas he drew from African artwork to create this masterpiece.
