Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The disciple who was a brother of Andrew

Answer: Who is Peter?

Peter was the brother of Andrew. The two brothers were members of the original Twelve Disciples and their father was Jonah. According to Scripture, Peter and Andrew had totally different personalities. While Peter was brash and outgoing, Andrew was subdued and introverted.
2. The woman who was often at loggerheads with Syntyche

Answer: Who is Euodia?

Euodia and Syntyche were two members of the early church at Philippi but it seems they didn't like each other. While specific details are not given, Paul "implores" the two women to be of the same mind in the Lord, as per Philippians 4:2. No further details are given about the differences the two women apparently had.

However, after urging Euodia and Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord, Paul makes one of his famous statements in Philippians Verse 6-7: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
3. The New Testament book consisting of only one chapter

Answer: What is Jude?

Jude is one of four books in the New Testament consisting of only one chapter. The other books with one chapter are Philemon, 2 John and 3 John.

In Jude 1:1, Jude describes himself in the NKJV as a "bondservant" of Jesus Christ and the brother of James. Protestant scholars believe Jude, also referred to as Judas, was a half brother of Jesus.

However, it must be pointed out the view of the Catholic Church is Jesus did not have any half brothers or sisters. In Matthew 13:55-56, mention is made of Jesus having brothers and sisters, but Catholic doctrine maintains the word 'brothers' and 'sisters' translate as sharing a common bond, and not being related by blood.
4. The community where Jesus ascended to heaven

Answer: What is Bethany?

After His resurrection, Jesus ascended to heaven at Bethany, a small community just outside of Jerusalem in Biblical times. Witnessing the ascension were the eleven remaining disciples, as per Luke 24:50-51. The verses in the NKJV state, "And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven."

The next two verses tell of the disciples worshipping Him and then returning to Jerusalem with great joy and being "continually in the temple praising and blessing God."
5. The two disciples involved in a footrace to Christ's empty tomb

Answer: Who are John and Peter?

John and Peter were both involved in a footrace to Christ's empty tomb, as per John 20:1-4. The passage tells of Mary Magdalene informing Peter and "the disciple Jesus loved" (commonly believed to be John) about Christ's tomb being empty. Almost immediately, the two disciples ran to the tomb to see for themselves, with John winning the footrace.

As a result of this incident, some scholars have speculated John was younger than Peter and was much more nimble. The thinking is that Peter was big and burly and couldn't keep up with John.
6. A blind man who miraculously gained his sight when Jesus visited Jericho

Answer: Who is Bartimaeus?

Bartimaeus miraculous gained his sight when he had a dramatic encounter with Jesus at Jericho. Bartimaeus was the son of Timaeus and he had no choice but to sit by the road begging to survive.

The account of Bartimaeus gaining his sight is one of my favorite Bible stories. In fact, the first quiz I did for FunTrivia was about the encounter between Jesus and Bartimaeus.

For details about blind Bartimaeus, see Mark 10:46-52.
7. The disciple who was beheaded on the orders of Herod

Answer: Who is James?

James was the first member of the original Twelve Disciples to be killed for his belief in a resurrected Jesus Christ. He was the brother of John. Acts 12:2 tells of Herod killing James with the sword, meaning he was beheaded.

Scripture goes on to tell of Herod ordering the arrest of Peter. However, Peter made a miraculous escape from prison and he avoided the fate of James.
8. A worker in the early church who served on the island of Crete

Answer: Who is Titus?

Titus was an worker in the early church who served on the island of Crete, as per Titus 1:5. The book of Titus is actually a letter written by Paul to Titus. In his letter, Paul provides guidelines to Titus for having a church set on sound Scriptural principles.

Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and it is the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea with only Sicily, Sardinia, Cyprus and Corsica being larger.
9. The vindictive woman who was the wife of Herod and arranged the beheading of John the Baptist

Answer: Who is Herodias?

Herodias was the vindictive wife of Herod, and she was responsible for orchestrating the death of John the Baptist. Matthew 14:1-12 tells of Herodias being previously married to Herod's brother Philip; when John the Baptist denounced her second marriage, Herodias was livid.

The passage tells of Herodias successfully calling for the beheading of John the Baptist and his disciples coming to bury his body.
10. The number of parables told by Jesus in the four Gospels

Answer: What is 39?

Jesus is credited with telling thirty-nine parables, as per the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. Interestingly, the Gospel of John does not contain any parables as it focuses on the final few weeks of Christ's ministry.

The NKJV Study Bible contains a full-page chart detailing Christ's thirty-nine parables and I present it here:
