Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the original name of Hillsong Church?

Answer: Hills Christian Life Centre

Hills Christian Life Centre was started in Sydney by a man called Brian Houston in 1983. Originally, Hillsong was the name of the church's record label when Hills' worship team began to produce and distribute its music around the world in the early 1990s. When the music became more well-known than the church itself, the leadership team thought it would make good sense to rename the organisation Hillsong Church.

The name change happened in 1999, about the same time that the church merged with Sydney Christian Life Centre, which was a church run by Brian's father Frank.

The other two options given are completely made up.
2. Which of the following singers was not part of the Hillsong worship team during the first ten years of the 21st century?

Answer: Rebecca St James

Although Rebecca St James is Australian (born in Sydney), she moved to the US and spent of the majority of her music career there. She is known as an solo Christian music artist rather than as part of a particular church's worship team.

Darlene Zschech is probably Hillsong's most famous musician or even person, and has contributed both songwriting skills and vocal talents. She is the lead vocal on many recorded tracks and has written many songs including 'Shout to the Lord.'

Brooke Fraser (who later became Brooke Legeritwood) comes from New Zealand but moved to Sydney to pursuit a solo career in music. She has served Hillsong Church on a voluntary basis and was both the writer and lead vocal for 'Hosanna'.

Reuben Morgan replaced Darlene as Hillsong's official Worship Pastor in 2008. He has written songs such as 'My Redeemer Lives' and 'Mighty to Save'.

'Cherish Women's Conference' is an annual event run by Abundant Life Centre in Bradford in the UK.
6. What shocking confession brought controversy to Hillsong Church in 2000?

Answer: Frank Houston (father of Pastor Brian Houston) confessed to sexually abusing children years before

Frank told Brian that he had sexually abused boys in his care during the 1970s. This forced him to be removed from all of his ministry roles within Hillsong Church. He was, however, never prosecuted by the police. Frank died four years later in 2004. All the other options are completely made up.
