Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for the number of times God is mentioned in the Book of Esther.

Answer: 0

Surprisingly, there is not a single mention of God in the Book of Esther. In fact, it is the only book in Bible versions such as the NKJV and NIV with no mention of God.

While Esther might not contain a single mention of God, there are some indirect references. The Website Gotquestions.org explains things this way: "The book of Esther may not directly mention God, yet it clearly reveals God at work. His name is not written in the book, but His fingerprints, as we say, are all over it. The coincidences, the amazing reversals, and the poetic justice that led to the deliverance of the Jews in Persia all proclaim the presence of God."
2. Find the match for the number of husbands of Ruth.

Answer: 2

Ruth had two husbands in the course of her life. Her first husband was Mahlon, the son of Elimelech and Naomi, as per Ruth 4:10. Scripture tells of Mahlon dying and Ruth becoming the bride of Boaz, a wealthy landowner. Their marriage would result in the birth of a son, Obed.
3. Find the match for the age of Issac when he died, as per Genesis 35:28.

Answer: 180

Isaac was one hundred and eighty years old when he died, as per Genesis 35:28. Scripture tells of Isaac marrying Rebekah and the two becoming parents of the first set of documented twins, Jacob and Esau. The two twins were often adversaries later in life.
4. Find the match for the number of lepers camped at the gate of Jerusalem when the city was under siege by the Syrians. (2 Kings 7:3)

Answer: 4

2 Kings 7:3 tells of four leprous men camped at the entrance of the gate of Jerusalem while the city was under siege by the Syrian army. With no hope of getting food to eat, Scripture tells of the four lepers going to the Syrian army camp, reasoning they would die if they stay put. Miraculously, when the foursome arrived at the Syrian camp, all the soldiers had departed and they were able to eat and drink as much as they wanted.

After having their fill of food and drink, the lepers opted to return to Jerusalem to inform the gatekeepers about the sudden departure of the Syrians.
5. Find the match for the number of youths who were mauled by two female bears after they mocked Elisha for being bald. (2 Kings 2:24)

Answer: 42

Forty-two youths were mauled after they mocked Elisha for being bald. 2 Kings 2:23-24 in the NKJV tells of Elisha, a prophet of God, passing through Bethel when a group of youths mocked him, saying: "Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!" The passage states Elisha pronounced a curse on them in the name of the LORD "and two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths."

Some commentaries I have read on this incident point out that in Biblical times, abundant hair was seen as a source of strength. In addition to claiming Elisha had no strength, the youths were telling him he should be dead by proclaiming, "Go up, you baldhead!" In other words, the youths showed complete contempt for a prophet of God, which led to their sudden downfall.
6. Find the match for the number of daughters of Reuel, also known as Jethro, the father-in-law of Moses. (Exodus 2:16)

Answer: 7

Reuel, also known as Jethro, had seven daughters, as per Exodus 2:16. With the exception of Zipporah, the daughters are not named. Zipporah married Moses and they were the parents of two sons, Gershom and Eliezer. Reuel/Jethro was a priest of Midian.
7. Find the match for the age of Joseph when he died, as per Genesis 50:26.

Answer: 110

Joseph died in Egypt when he was one hundred and ten years old, as per Genesis 50:26. The verse tells of his body being embalmed and put in a coffin. Meanwhile, Exodus 13:19 tells of Moses taking the bones of Joseph with him for burial in Canaan.
8. Find the match for the number of years David ruled as king, as per 1 Kings 2:11.

Answer: 40

David ruled as king for forty years. 1 Kings 2:11, states David reigned over Israel for four decades with seven years of his reign spent in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

I find it highly interesting that David's son, Solomon, also ruled as king of Israel for forty years, as per Kings 11:42.
9. Find the match for the number of chapters in the Book of Job using the NKV and NIV.

Answer: 42

Using Bible versions such as the KJV, NKJV and NIV, the Book of Job consists of forty-two chapters. In the three Bible versions mentioned, Job follows the Book of Esther and precedes the Book of Psalms. Jewish tradition holds Job was written by Moses, but some scholars dispute this belief. The common belief in Christian circles is the author is unknown.
10. Find the match for the number of Old Testament books that start with a number in the NKJV and NIV. (ie. 1 Chronicles, 1 Kings.)

Answer: 6

Using Bible versions such as the KJV, NKJV and NIV, six Old Testament books start with a number. The six books are 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings and 1 and 2 Chronicles.

However, it must be pointed out in the Hebrew Bible, there is no separation of books. In other words, Samuel, Kings and Chronicles each appear as one book without any division.
