A very Godly number, it is sometimes referred to as a perfect number. Which of the following choices best indicates what SEVEN represents from a Biblical viewpoint?
Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Eight.

If you can imagine the 8 lying on its side, you have a representation of infinity. This is appropriate because the number eight is symbolic of what?
Hint

Three (Godhead) x Three (Godhead) = NINE.
Jesus died in the NINTH hour.
There are NINE gifts of the Holy Ghost.

What, based on this information, may be inferred about the number NINE?
Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. You just think that we're through. Just because we are on number TEN, we are not done. There are other numbers worthy of exploration, and perhaps an upcoming quiz will address them.

What is the significance of the TEN commandments, the TEN plagues in Egypt, TEN percent tithes, and the TEN-horned beast of Revelation?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's get started. ONE. Great starting place, huh? Whenever we see the number ONE mentioned in the Bible, what is it most likely referencing, especially about God?

Answer: Unity

Yes, God as a singular, unified force is referred to as ONE God. Inversely, one could even say that the Bible teaches that while there is ONE God, God Himself is ONE.

That has opened much conjecture as to whether Jesus, the Holy Spirit and the Father are ONE in the same Godhead, or whether God, in three parts is unified in purpose. Rather than trying to argue one point over the other, it is sufficient to say that God is ONE and that ONE is God; (or that ONE is the number OF God).
2. Okay, next we take on the number TWO. Two is a number that represents division, or separation. When God made man and woman, according to the book of Genesis, why did He unify them as one?

Answer: To reflect His own glory through them and to provide a living example of unity.

Many times in the Holy Scriptures, we see that TWO represents a divisive nature. In the examples of the twins Jacob and Esau; of Hagar and Sarah; in studying the split of Judah and Israel, the number two represents a difference of opinion or belief.

TWO is the first number that is DIVISIBLE, and therefore may be properly seen as a number that shows division or discord, as opposed to the unity of ONE.

In the case of Adam and Eve, while God made the two of them to be as one with Him, in perfect harmony, they chose to be individualistic and strike out on their own in rebellion as a separate entity from God.

Christians believe that man was without hope until the Christ, whom they believe to be the son of God, came to allow man to fellowship with the Father again. They believe that acceptance of Him, as the son of God, and His ultimate sacrifice for man, signifies their obedience to the Father's will and reunites man as one with his maker, represented by the ONE-ness of God's nature.
3. Well, how did you know? Yep, THREE is next. Some Christians believe that God is a Triune Being, that He consists of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost; while others believe that God is one, free-standing entity and that the other aspects of God, the Son and the Holy Ghost that are associated WITH the Father are NOT part of the Godhead. Rather than focus on discrepancies in various belief systems however, what does the number three generally mean from a Biblical perspective?

Answer: Agreement

The number THREE is the first number that has a beginning, a middle and an end. While the three entities of the Godhead might be used as a point of reference, other examples of the agreement of THREE can also be found in scripture.

The temptation of Eve in the Old Testament has a corollary in the New Testament record of the temptation of Jesus. First, each was tempted by Satan with food; Eve, with the fruit of the tree of knowledge and Jesus, with the suggestion that He turn stones into bread.

Secondly, each was tempted with "eye-candy"; in other words what they could physically see. Eve, with the sight of the tree being a "delight to the eyes" and Jesus with the sight of all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

Thirdly, each was tempted with proffered power/control. Eve, with the promise of becoming "god-like" and Jesus with daring God to send His angels to protect Him.

Many other examples of the agreement of THREE exist; among them the 3 days and nights of Jonah in the fish belly and of Jesus in the grave; the three men who met with Abraham in the field of Mamre; the three denials of Peter, which were later countermanded by Jesus obtaining three statements affirming Peter's love for him by telling him to "feed my sheep" three times.

Perhaps the most compelling of the examples of THREE being a number showing agreement is found in 1 John 5:7-8
"For there are three that bear witness in heaven: The Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one."
"And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one."
4. All right then. We're going on to number FOUR now. What might the number FOUR symbolize from a Biblical perspective?

Answer: the world

FOUR may be seen to represent the world and all that is in it. Consistently, throughout the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, we see FOUR as indicative of the world.

There are four seasons, four "corners" of the earth (directional N. S. E. W.), four colored horses in Revelation and Zechariah, four living creatures in the same book, as well as in Ezekiel, four winds of destruction, four kingdoms spoken of by Daniel, followed by a fifth, a Godly kingdom, along with four major elements of the earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Earth.

All of these indicate things that pertain to the world itself.
5. Still with me? Let's move on to the number FIVE. What can this number be seen to represent, from a scriptural point of view?

Answer: Grace

The number FIVE can be arrived at by one of two methods. Either the worldly number FOUR can be added to the Godly number ONE or by adding the Godly number THREE to the worldly divisive number of TWO. In either case, the perfection of the imperfect yields FIVE, signifying the GRACE of God extended to man.

In the book of Genesis 15:9, Abraham recognized, sealed and accepted God's promise by making a five-fold sacrifice.

When David slew Goliath, he had chosen FIVE stones, but only used one to kill the giant. FOUR of them (world) were unnecessary, but the FIFTH (God) accomplished its work.

In Exodus 30:23-25, we find FIVE elements required to make the anointing oil of Israel. The tabernacle itself was formed by multiples of FIVE and the FIFTH kingdom spoken of by the prophet Daniel is a Godly kingdom.

New Testament accounts of FIVE may be found in the parable or story of the FIVE wise virgins vs. the FIVE foolish ones (Matthew 25:1-13) and on the day of Pentecost, (The prefix 'pente' means five times ten OR fifty days from Christ's resurrection until the arrival of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2: 1-6) (Originally, Pentecost was significant to the people of Moses' time because God gave him the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai five times ten - fifty days after the Exodus from Egypt.)

Yes, since grace is shown in many ways in both Testaments, FIVE may be seen as showing God's grace extended to mankind.
6. Six is the number of one of God's created beings. Which one is represented by SIX?

Answer: Man

Man, who was created on the SIXTH day, can be seen as represented by the number SIX. Man's weakness is shown in this number, since it is an incomplete number without God; (ONE) more or SEVEN. Man was instructed early on to work SIX days in the week and rest on the seventh or Sabbath day.

Noah was 600 years old when the world became so corrupt that God destroyed everything in it that wasn't safe in the ark with the great flood.

In Luke 11:42-52, Jesus warned the Pharisees and the lawyers with SIX woes, (or warnings.) Matthew 27:45 demonstrates to us the significance of the son of God also being known as the son of man. When Jesus was dying on the cross, as "the son of man", there was darkness over all the land from the SIXTH hour to the ninth hour, (or from about noon until 3:OO pm.)

Of course, one of the most infamous triplicate numbers is the number 666. From the studies that I have done, this may simply show that the beast, (a man), the false prophet, (a man), and the Antichrist, (a man), all will be at work opposing the work of GOD - (7). The spirits of these entities will be at work THROUGH men.
7. This brings us to a special number, the number SEVEN. A very Godly number, it is sometimes referred to as a perfect number. Which of the following choices best indicates what SEVEN represents from a Biblical viewpoint?

Answer: Perfection and forgiveness

One of the easiest ways to understand this number is to look at the fact that once God completed His work, He rested on the SEVENTH day. His perfect work was done.

When Noah took the clean animals onto the ark, he brought them on in groups of SEVEN, whereas the unclean only came on in pairs. The SEVENTH animal,
(2 animals x 3 pairs + 1 animal) was for a sacrifice to God after the flood waters subsided.

Every SEVENTH year, was a Sabbath year, to the Israelites, and even the ground rested.

The city of Jericho was marched around for SEVEN days and on the SEVENTH day, the Israelites marched around it SEVEN times on that day, shouting after SEVEN trumpet-blows and the walls fell down.

Jesus sent out SEVENTY disciples in Luke 10:1, a multiplicative of SEVEN and TEN. He sent them out in groups of TWOS.

In the book of Mark, chapter 8:14-21, we see that after feeding a multitude, there were SEVEN baskets of food left over.

There were SEVEN weeks that passed between the ascension of Christ and the day of Pentecost; SEVEN churches in the book of Revelation; SEVEN spirits of God; SEVEN seals; SEVEN vials; SEVEN trumpets and SEVEN last plagues.

Christians, as well as others believe that perfection for man can only come through forgiveness, so the number SEVEN represents both.
8. Eight. If you can imagine the 8 lying on its side, you have a representation of infinity. This is appropriate because the number eight is symbolic of what?

Answer: new beginnings

One can almost imagine an Eight to be another form of ONE, since it is showing a new beginning of something.

If we understand seven to be a number of perfection, then EIGHT would, by extension, be nothing more than a new beginning or a new ONE.

There were EIGHT people on the ark; Noah, his wife, their three sons and three daughters-in-law. Jesus was circumcised on the EIGHTH day after His birth. He was resurrected on the FIRST day of the week, which was the day after the SEVENTH day, or an EIGHTH day.

King David was the EIGHTH son of Jesse, and became the NEW king of Israel, replacing Saul.

Eight always seems to indicate a new beginning in some way or another throughout the Bible.
9. Well, we're up to number NINE. I'll try to help you out a little with this one. Three (Godhead) x Three (Godhead) = NINE. Jesus died in the NINTH hour. There are NINE gifts of the Holy Ghost. What, based on this information, may be inferred about the number NINE?

Answer: it is a number concerning judgment

NINE, which is the number of judgments spoken of in the book of Micah the prophet, is most definitely about all sorts of judgments. Numerologists go absolutely wild about this number, because one can multiply NINE by any other single number, and by adding the products, they will return to NINE.

It is important to remember that God made the numbers and their designations in the first place. Perhaps man would be wise to seek out God's messages through numbers.

Answer: completion

TEN always seems to indicate the completion of a series or a chain of events. TEN times other numbers found in the Bible can carry special significance as well, as evidenced in 20,30,40,50,100,1,000, etc.

The Old Testament tabernacle was based on many TENS, as well as fives. The Holiest of Holies was TEN cubits squared. The New Testament book of Matthew speaks of TEN virgins, FIVE of whom are wise, and FIVE of whom were foolish.

In nearly every instance TEN and its many multiplicatives indicate a wholeness or a thorough completion.
