Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Count the chapters and the six hundredth chapter in the Old Testament of the Protestant Bible is Psalm 123. Who is the writer of Psalm 123?

Answer: No one knows for certain

No one knows for certain who wrote Psalm 123. It's classified as a Song of Ascents, similar to other Psalms like Psalm 122 and Psalm 127. However, David's name appears on Psalm 122 and Solomon's on Psalm 127. No name is attached to Psalm 123. Going strictly by Scripture, the answer to this question has to be no one knows for certain.

If anyone is interested, here are the number of chapters in the Old Testament of the Protestant Bible one goes through before arriving at the 600th chapter:
Genesis -- 50
Exodus -- 40
Leviticus -- 27
Numbers -- 36
Deuteronomy -- 34 -- 194
Joshua -- 24
Judges 21
Ruth -- 4
1 Samuel -- 30
2 Samuel -- 24
1 Kings -- 22
2 Kings -- 25
1 Chronicles -- 29
2 Chronicles -- 45
Ezra -- 10
Nehemiah -- 13
Esther -- 10
Job -- 42

The total above, comes to four hundred and seventy-seven chapters. As a result, Psalm 123 is the six hundredth chapter in the Old Testament of the Protestant Bible.
2. Count the verses and the six hundredth one in the Old Testament of the Protestant Bible (NKJV), is Genesis 24:17. The verse in the NKJV states: "And the servant ran to meet her and said, 'Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher'." What was the name of the woman who had a pitcher of water the servant was talking to in this verse?

Answer: Rebekah

The servant was talking to Rebekah. Scripture states Abraham sent his senior servant to Nahor, in Mesopotamia, to find a bride for his son Isaac. (The NKIV says Aram Naharaim rather than Mesopotamia.) The story of Abraham's servant meeting Rebekah at a well is told in Geneses 24.

While at a well, Genesis 24:12-14 tells of the servant praying to God that a sign the woman to become Isaac's wife would oblige his request for a drink and then offer to water his camels. The next verse tells of Rebekah, who was "very beautiful" coming to the well with a pitcher on her shoulder. In Verse 17, the six hundredth verse of the Old Testament, the servant asks Rebekah for a drink and Scripture goes on to state she not only gave him a drink but offered to draw water for his camels as well.

The rest, as they say, is history.

If anyone is interested, the first 23 chapters of Genesis contain 583 verses, as per the information below:

Genesis 2 -- 25 verses
Genesis 3 -- 24 verses
Genesis 4 -- 26 verses
Genesis 5 -- 32 verses

Genesis 8 -- 22 verses
Genesis 9 -- 29 verses
Genesis 10 -- 32 verses
Genesis 11 -- 32 verses
Genesis 12 -- 20 verses
Genesis 13 -- 18 verses
Genesis 14 -- 24 verses
Genesis 15 -- 21 verses
Genesis 16 -- 16 verses
Genesis 17 -- 27 verses
Genesis 18 -- 33 verses
Genesis 19 -- 38 verses
Genesis 20 -- 18 verses
Genesis 21 -- 24 verses
Genesis 22 -- 23 verses
Genesis 23 -- 20 verses

Add on 17 more verses (Genesis 24:1-17) and you get the total of six hundred verses.
3. According to Genesis 7:11, who was six hundred years old when a monstrous disaster took place?

Answer: Noah

Noah was six hundred years old when a monstrous flood engulfed the world, according to Genesis 7:11. Scripture states it rained continuously for forty days and forty nights and the world became covered by floodwaters. However, Noah and his unnamed wife, as well as their three sons and their three unnamed wives, survived the flood as they took refuge in a gigantic ark.
4. According to Exodus 14:7, who took "six hundred choice chariots" and pursued the Israelites?

Answer: The Pharaoh

The Pharaoh is the correct answer. According to Exodus 14:7 he took six hundred of the best chariots "along with all the other chariots of Egypt" and pursued the Israelites who were staging an exodus out of Egypt.

The pursuit, however, would be a fatal mistake for the Pharaoh. Scripture goes on to tell of God parting the Red Sea for the Israelites, enabling them to cross safely over to the other side. However, when the Egyptians entered the parted sea to pursue the Israelites, Scripture states "the water flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen -- the entire army of Pharaoh" and not one of them survived."
5. According to Judges 3:31, what judge of Israel killed six hundred Philistines with an ox goad?

Answer: Shamgar

Shamgar is the correct answer. However, little in the way of detail is given about Shamgar's accomplishment. Judges 3:31 simply states he was the son of Anath "who killed six hundred men of the Philistines with an ox goad." The verse goes on to state "he also delivered Israel."

Shamgar replaced Ehud as judge and was followed by Deborah, the only female judge of Israel.
6. 1 Chronicles 21:25 in the NKJV tells of David giving Ornan "six hundred shekels of gold by weight" as part of a transaction. What did David purchase?

Answer: A threshing floor where he built an altar

According to Scripture, David gave Ornan "six hundred shekels of gold by weight" for a threshing floor. (The NIV refers to Ornan as Araunah.) According to 1 Chronicles 21:18, an angel of the LORD commanded Gad to tell David he should "go and erect an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Ornan, the Jebusite."
1 Chronicles 21:25-26 goes on tell of David purchasing the threshing floor and building an alter for the LORD with God answering him "from heaven by fire on the alter of burnt offering."
7. Judges 20:47, in the NKJV, states: "But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and they stayed at the rock of Rimmon for four months." Who were the six hundred men who fled to the rock of Rimmon?

Answer: Benjamites

The six hundred men who fled to the rock of Rimmon were Benjamites, according to Judges 20. The eleven tribes of Israel ended up going to war against the Benjamites over wickedness shown by a number of the men of the tribe, as per Judges 19:22-29.

Scripture goes on to tell of the Benjamites being soundly defeated in battle, with no less than fifty thousand soldiers being killed, as per Judges 20:44-46.

Verse 47 tells of six hundred Benjamites surviving the rout and fleeing to the rock at Rimmon. According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, the remaining six hundred men would become the remnant that carried on the tribe's name.

According to Wikipedia, the rock of Rimmon is about thirteen miles south-west of Hebron.
8. According to 1 Kings 10:29, a king of Israel imported a chariot from Egypt at a cost of six hundred shekels of silver. Who was the king who paid six hundred shekels of silver for the chariot?

Answer: Solomon

According to 1 Kings 10:29, King Solomon paid six hundred shekels of silver to import a chariot from Egypt. However, no further details are given as the transaction is mentioned in passing reference.

During Solomon's reign, Israel enjoyed enormous prosperity, Scripture states. In fact, according to 1 Kings 10:27, Solomon "made silver in Jerusalem as common as stones." Meanwhile, Verse 23 states Solomon "surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom."
9. 1 Samuel 17:7 has this description of a warrior: "Now the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and his iron spearhead weighed six hundred shekels; and a shield-bearer went before him." What warrior is being described?

Answer: Goliath

Goliath is the correct answer. He was the Philistine behemoth David slayed with a slingshot. Make no mistake about it. David's adversary was a giant of a man.

1 Samuel 17:4 states his height was six cubits and a span, that is, about nine feet nine inches or about three meters. Scripture goes one to state Goliath had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels [That is, about 125 pounds or about 58 kilograms]; on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. His spear shaft was like a weaver's rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. [That is, about 15 pounds or about 6.9 kilograms]. On top of this, Goliath's shield bearer went ahead of him.

Scripture states David chose five smooth stones from a stream for his slingshot, but it appears all he needed was one as 1 Samuel 17:49, in the NKJV Bible states: "Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth."

After this incident, David's life would never be the same again.
10. Count the verses and the 600th one in the New Testament (NKJV) is Matthew 18:17. The verse in the NKJV sates: "'And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector'." Who made the statement?

Answer: Jesus

The statement was made by Jesus and is part of a passage known as 'The Offended Brother'. According to Scripture, Jesus made the comments to His disciples. Details appear in Matthew 18:15-20. Incidentally, in Matthew 18:20, Jesus makes the popular proclamation "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them'."

If anyone is interested, here are the number of verses in the first 17 chapters of Matthew to determine which verse is Number 600:
Matthew 1 -- 25
Matthew 2 -- 23
Matthew 3 -- 17
Matthew 4 -- 25
Matthew 5 -- 48
Matthew 6 -- 34
Matthew 7 -- 29
Matthew 8 -- 34
Matthew 9 -- 38
Matthew 10 -- 42
Matthew 11 -- 58
Matthew 12 -- 30
Matthew 13 -- 58
Matthew 14 -- 36
Matthew 15 -- 39
Matthew 16 -- 28
Matthew 17 -- 27

The total comes to 583 verses. Add on Matthew 18:1-17, and you end up at the 600th verse.
