Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After enjoying a bubble bath she basked in the California sun consuming two bottles of Canada Dry.

Answer: Bathsheba

Bathsheba is the correct answer. She committed adultery with King David and ended up becoming his wife after he arranged the death of her husband Uriah. Bathsheba was the mother of Solomon who replaced David as king. The story of her adulterous affair is recorded in the 11th chapter of Second Samuel.
2. The Grenada video was shown to U.S. President Reagan shortly after American troops invaded the tiny Caribbean island on Oct. 25, 1983.

Answer: David

David was the shepherd boy who slew Goliath, the Philistine giant, with a sling shot. He became king of Israel after the death of Saul. For a time, Israel was the scene of a bitter civil war with David leading Judah and Saul's son Ishbosheth leading Israel.

However, David's forces eventually ruled supreme and after the death of Ishbosheth, he became king of the entire nation of Israel. The story about the civil war and David's ascension to the throne of Israel can be found in the first five chapters of Second Samuel.
3. The farmer had among the Rhode Island red chickens a Mallard duck on his farm in Delaware.

Answer: Adam

Adam was the first man, according to Scripture. Genesis 1: 26-31 reports about God creating mankind on the sixth day of creation. Meanwhile, Genesis 2: 21-25 goes on to tell of God creating Eve, the world's first woman. Adam called the woman Eve "because she was the mother of all living," according to Genesis 3:20.
4. Old banjos, ephemera collecting and following the Toronto Maple Leafs are the favorite pastimes of my eccentric cousin who lives in Kapuskasing, Ontario.

Answer: Joseph

Joseph was betrayed by his 11 brothers and sold into slavery in Egypt, only to eventually rise up to become second in command in the country with only the Pharaoh above him. There were setbacks along the way, of course, with him ending up in prison on false charges of attempting to rape Potiphar's wife.

His ordeal is one of the best known stories in the Old Testament and is told in the hit musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", written by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice. The story of Joseph starts in the 37th chapter of Genesis and runs through to the 50th chapter.
5. The performer wore a bra hammered out of tin by a talented blacksmith from Big Spring, Texas.

Answer: Abraham

Abraham, the husband of Sarah and the father of Isaac, is the correct answer. The story of Abraham preparing to sacrifice Isaac is one of the best known stories in the Old Testament. Scripture reports God commanded Abraham to take his son Isaac to a mountain in the region of Moriah and to sacrifice him as a burnt offering. Just as Abraham was preparing to sacrifice Isaac, Scripture reports an angel of the LORD called out and told him to spare his son because it was evident Abraham feared God. After the angel called out, Abraham spotted a ram in the thicket and used it as his sacrificial offering.

The story is told in the 22nd chapter of Genesis. Many Christians compare this episode to God's sacrifice of His own son, Jesus, in the New Testament.
6. Icy Russian streets in winter are responsible for thousands of car accidents, a Moscow transportation analyst said.

Answer: Cyrus

Cyrus, king of Persia, is the correct answer. He is best known for granting permission to the Israelites to return to Jerusalem to build a temple. In the 36th chapter of 2 Chronicles, it states Cyrus' heart was moved by the LORD to allow the Israelites taken into exile to return to Jerusalem. Verse 23 in the NKJV Bible states Cyrus credited "the LORD, the God of heaven" for giving him "all the kingdoms of the earth." Cyrus goes on to state the LORD had "appointed" him to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah.

The empire of King Cyrus stretched from India in the east to Turkey in the west, according to information from various websites. Persia was in present day Iran. Cyrus' name is mentioned 19 times in the Old Testament of the NKJV Bible, showing he played a key role in the scheme of things.
7. The young pilot flew solo Monday from Regina, Saskatchewan to Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Answer: Solomon

According to 1 Kings 11:1-3, Solomon had 700 official wives of royal birth and 300 concubines. The wives led him astray and as he grew old, his heart was turned after other gods and he was not fully devoted to the Lord, Scripture states.

Interestingly, Solomon was supposed to have been known as Jedidiah. 2 Samuel 12:24-25, in the NKJV Bible, states: "Then David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her and lay with her. So she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Now the LORD loved him, and He sent word by the hand of Nathan the prophet: So he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD." According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, Jedidiah means "Beloved of the Lord."
8. The cyclical ebb and flow of the Australian river sparked a tidalwave of research by scientists based in Canberra.

Answer: Caleb

Caleb was one of twelve spies sent by Moses to survey the land of Canaan. While ten of the spies recommended not invading Canaan, Caleb and Joshua saw things differently. They recommended invading the territory and Numbers 14:38 reports they survived while the rest of the spies perished.

The same verse reports Jephunneh was the father of Caleb while Nun was the father of Joshua. It all reminds me of a riddle my teenaged daughter asked me the other day. It goes like this. Question: Who is the only character in the Bible, apart from Adam and Eve, not to have parents? Answer: Joshua, son of 'none.'
9. The erupting volcano ahead of the driving rain was a sure sign the day would be like none other in the tiny Central American country.

Answer: Noah

Noah's story can be found in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth chapters of Genesis and he is one of the better known characters in the Old Testament. Scripture states the LORD was grieved at the wickedness of mankind and decided to wipe them from the face of the earth. Noah, however, found favour in the eyes of the Lord and He instructed him to build an ark so he and his family could endure a horrific flood that would beset the world, Scripture states. According to Genesis 6:15, the ark was 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high.
10. 'Giant rut highly likely to have caused deadly car accident' was the headline on the Front Page of the local newspaper on Tuesday.

Answer: Ruth

Ruth is the correct answer. She and her sister-in-law Orpah were married to Naomi's sons, Mahlon and Kilion, as per the book of Ruth. According to Scripture, Naomi's husband Elimelek and her two sons died and the three women were widows. Orpah opted to return to her homeland while Ruth decided to stay with her mother-in-law. Ruth 1:16-17, in the NIV Bible, quotes Ruth as telling Naomi: "...where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me." The book of Ruth is largely a story about the romance between Ruth and Boaz.

After the couple became husband and wife, they became parents of Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse, who was the the father of David.
