Question 2 of 10
2. It was a night when I couldn't sleep. They brought the boring books to me and read them, but that didn't work. Instead, I was reminded that I hadn't rewarded the man who had saved my life so I asked my right-hand man how it should be done. Who am I, and who is the man that I rewarded? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. I was asleep one night when my friend woke me up saying he'd had a weird dream. He said he'd dreamed that a round loaf of barley bread had rolled down into their camp with enough force to knock over a tent and collapse it. Question 4 of 10
4. One night I was preaching until after midnight in an upper room, when a young man sitting on the window-sill was carried off by a deep sleep and fell to the ground. I insisted that he was alive and "they led the boy alive and were encouraged to no small degree". My name was Paul but, in what city did this happen? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. I am a member of the Sanhedrin, the ruling body of the Jews religious and political laws, and I came to Jesus in the night to ask him about His teachings, but the answers I got just left me more confused. Jesus told me I must be 'born again'. Who am I? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. I had something strange happen to me one night. I met a man and he wrestled with me; he even dislocated one of my joints. While some say the "man" was merely an angel, many Christians believe that this "man" was actually God, but who am I? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Boy! Was I ever in trouble, and deep!
I was responsible for some really special prisoners once, along with some other prisoners who could have all gotten away about midnight one night! I had secured the two "special" prisoners in an interior place within the prison, but what happened next? An earthquake! The doors of the prison opened up and I nearly killed myself, dreading the horrible punishment that would be mine in the morning! One of the prisoners called out to me and stopped me from using my sword on myself, though.
What did he say that made me pause, according to the 16th chapter of Acts?
Hint

Question 8 of 10

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It was late one night, just before Easter, (according to the King James Version of the Bible), when I was in prison. The king intended to have me killed, just like he had done John the Baptist and James, one of the disciples of Jesus. Sixteen soldiers were assigned to guard me in the prison, but someone helped me to escape, although I was sleeping at the time. Who am I, and who helped me to flee from prison?

Answer: Peter and an angel

In Acts, chapter 12, we find that I, Peter, was awakened by an angel the very night before king Herod had determined to have me put to death right after Easter. The church was praying for me incessantly, however, so an angel was sent by God to rescue me. At first I thought that I was dreaming, or at best experiencing a vision, but soon I realized that the angel was real and my escape was factual. When I appeared at the gate of John Mark's mother's house before daylight, the folks inside took some convincing that I was still alive, but eventually they believed me. I left the area shortly afterwards. The next morning, sadly for the jailers, the king was so incensed over my escape that he commanded that they be put to death.

2. It was a night when I couldn't sleep. They brought the boring books to me and read them, but that didn't work. Instead, I was reminded that I hadn't rewarded the man who had saved my life so I asked my right-hand man how it should be done. Who am I, and who is the man that I rewarded?

Answer: King Ahasuerus and Mordecai

Mordecai had warned King Ahasuerus of a plot to assassinate him and the king's life was saved. This was recorded in the annals of the kingdom. On the night Ahasuerus could not sleep he ordered these records to be read to him, in the hope they would be so boring they'd send him to sleep. Instead, he was reminded that Mordecai had never been rewarded. So he asked Haman, the second in the kingdom, how to reward "the man whom the king delights to honour". Haman, conceited as he was, thought he himself was the man and the king was going to reward him, so he told the king everything he could possibly wish for. Ahasuerus was delighted and told Haman, "You go and personally do everything you have said for Mordecai". Haman was livid because he and Mordecai were bitter enemies, but he could not disobey the king. You'll find the entire story, which tells of the origin of the festival of Purim, in the exciting book of Esther.

3. I was asleep one night when my friend woke me up saying he'd had a weird dream. He said he'd dreamed that a round loaf of barley bread had rolled down into their camp with enough force to knock over a tent and collapse it. I knew immediately that his dream meant that God had delivered us into the hands of a great Israelite leader. What's the name of that leader?

Answer: Gideon

I knew that Gideon was going to take us over. I didn't expect it so soon, though. That night we were attacked on all sides by three-hundred Israelites. I was so confused that I started killing everybody I saw. I saw the others start fleeing towards Beth Shittah so I just followed suit. The Israelites won the battle and captured our two leaders, Oreb and Zeeb. The whole story can be found in Judges 7.

4. One night I was preaching until after midnight in an upper room, when a young man sitting on the window-sill was carried off by a deep sleep and fell to the ground. I insisted that he was alive and "they led the boy alive and were encouraged to no small degree". My name was Paul but, in what city did this happen?

Answer: Troas

This happened at the end of Paul's third missionary journey, on his way back to Jerusalem from Greece. The young man's name was Euthychos, and Luke tells us that he fell from the third floor of the building. Luke's comment that "there were quite a number of lamps in the upper room" explains both how Paul was able to preach until well into the night but also why Euthychos fell asleep -- ancient lamps created a lot of smoke as they burned. Troas (full name: Alexandria Troas) was founded in 306 BC and named after Alexander the Great. It was the port at which one would arrive by sea from Europe.

5. I am a member of the Sanhedrin, the ruling body of the Jews religious and political laws, and I came to Jesus in the night to ask him about His teachings, but the answers I got just left me more confused. Jesus told me I must be 'born again'. Who am I?

Answer: Nicodemus

Nicodemus was indeed a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin (or ruling council) and he appears three times in the Gospel of John. The first time was when he came to question Jesus in the night and to listen to His teaching (John 3:1-21). Jesus here admits that He is the Son of God and it is to Nicodemus that the much loved scripture verse is given. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." The second time Nicodemus appears is in John 7:45-51 where Nicodemus states the law concerning the arrest of Jesus during the Feast of Tabernacles. The final time that Nicodemus appears is in John 19:39-42 where he helps Joseph of Arimathea prepare the body of Jesus for burial and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes for that preparation. Not much more is known of Nicodemus but many Biblical historians believe that this Nicodemus is one and the same as Nicodemus ben Gurion, a holy man of the first century who reputedly had miraculous powers but there is no scriptural proof of this. Christian tradition has it that Nicodemus became a believer and was martyred in the first century. (KJV version is used)

6. I had something strange happen to me one night. I met a man and he wrestled with me; he even dislocated one of my joints. While some say the "man" was merely an angel, many Christians believe that this "man" was actually God, but who am I?

Answer: Jacob

I am Jacob, and the account of my wrestling with a being with super strength can be found in chapter 32 of Genesis. It was during this night that I was renamed Israel. The 24th through the 30th verses in the King James Version puts it this way:
"And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved."

My first name, Jacob, meant "supplanter", but my second name meant "God strives." I supplanted my brother's birthright by cheating him out of it, but later God worked, (or strove) with me, and caused me to realize that He was patiently waiting for me to see the error of my ways.

Answer: Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

Paul, Silas, Luke and possibly Timothy were visiting a lady in Thyatira when According to Acts 16:16-31 "... it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers, And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city, And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.
And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them. And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely: Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house."

8. In Acts 17 the Jewish establishment in Thessalonika was stirring up the city against Paul and me. My name was Silas, and one night the new Christian community there sent us away under the cover of darkness to a more friendly place. To what location did they send us?

Answer: Beroea

Beroea (also spelled Berea, and called "Verria" today), was an out-of-the-way town about 60 miles SW of Thessalonika. Luke records that the Jews there provided an very friendly welcome to Paul and Silas, so much so that "many became believers". When the hostile Jews from Thessalonika came to Beroea to stir up further trouble there, his new friends immediately escorted Paul to the coast and sent him by sea to Athens.

9. My name is Jacob and I was having a good night's sleep, even though I had to use a rock for a pillow, when I had a dream I will never forget. The place had been called Luz, but I re-named it Bethel, as per Genesis 28:19. Can you select the correct vision?

Answer: Angels ascending and descending a ladder from heaven.

The correct answer is 'angels ascending and descending a ladder from heaven'. Jacob's dream is reported in Genesis 28:10-22.

Genesis 28:11-15, in the NKJV, states: "So he [Jacob] came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: 'I am the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.'"

The chapter goes on to tell of Jacob naming the place Bethel and taking the stone he had at his head, setting it up as a pillar, and anointing it with oil.

10. I was my mother's first born, and though I was precious to her, she left me at Church. While I was sleeping one night in the temple, God called out to me by name and told me what was to come. I was the last of my kind in Israel, and anointed a king though I agreed with God it wasn't a good idea. Who am I?

Answer: Samuel

Though Hannah was beloved by her husband, she felt unfulfilled because she was barren. Her prayer that if given a son, she would dedicate him to the Lord (1Sam. 1:11). She kept her word when she brought young Samuel to Eli ( 1Sam. 1:24-28). Because of the apostate state of Israel and the priesthood, God spoke to Samuel concerning what was to come (1Sam. 3:1-15). Because Samuel's sons did not follow in his footsteps, the nation of Israel called out for a human king and ceased to be a Theocracy (1Sam. 8:1-10).

When Samuel anointed Saul, thus ended the era of the Judges in Israel. Question submitted by Dean521
