Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what book does Satan first appear, according to many Christians including the Biblical Archaeology Society?

Answer: Genesis

In Genesis chapter three the serpent (Satan) talks to Eve and convinces her through deception that it is okay to eat from The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. After Eve ate fruit from the tree, the Bible records that she gave some of the fruit to Adam who also ate it.
2. In which book of the Bible, according to the NIV, is Satan first referred to by that name?

Answer: 1 Chronicles

In 1 Chronicles 21:1 it says, "Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel." This was in direct disobedience of God's instructions. It says in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that God will always provide a way to escape temptation. David did not consult God, he simply took the census.

In verse three of 1 Chronicles 21, Joab tried to convince David not to take the census, but David did not listen. Then in verse seven God punished Israel because of David's action.
3. In Matthew chapter 4 (in the NIV), how many times does the devil tempt Jesus?

Answer: 3

In verse three he tells Jesus to turn the stones into bread. Jesus had not eaten in 40 days. In verse four Jesus quotes Scripture and says, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." (Deuteronomy 8:3).

Next, the devil tells Him to throw Himself off a high place the devil took Him up to, saying the angels would catch Him. Jesus does not do it but quotes Deuteronomy 6:16.

Lastly, the devil tells Jesus he will give Him "all the kingdoms of the world" if Jesus would bow down and worship him. Jesus quotes from Deuteronomy 6:13, resisting him yet again.

And in Matthew 4:11 the devil left him.
4. Isaiah 14:12-24 talks about the fall of Lucifer (another name for Satan, as evidenced by Christianity.com). Lucifer was created by God and was once a heavenly angel. According to the NIV, which statement best summarizes why he became a fallen angel?

Answer: Pride - he thought he was as good as, if not better than, the God who created him.

According to Strong's Concordance, Lucifer means "shining one, light-bearer." Yet when he chose to rebel, he became associated with darkness. Acts 26:18 contrasts Satan and darkness with God and light.
5. How many times does the term "the antichrist" appear in the NIV?

Answer: 4

"The antichrist" (sometimes appears capitalized) does not appear in the Old Testament. In the New Testament it is found 3 times in First John and one time in Second John. In 1 John 2:18, John warns "the antichrist is coming." He also states "other antichrists have come." This is the only verse that has a pluralized version.

The plural one does not refer to the one described in Revelation as coming during the Tribulation period.
6. According to Second Thessalonians 2, "The Man of Lawlessness" (another name for the antichrist as stated by the evangelical group Crossway) will proclaim himself to be who, according to the NIV?

Answer: God

According to Second Thessalonians 2:3, the "man of lawlessness is doomed to destruction." According to Revelation 19, Jesus will defeat the antichrist.
7. The term found in Matthew 24:15 in which Jesus references Daniel 9:27 of the NIV is associated with the antichrist to many Christians. What is the term?

Answer: Abomination

Daniel states in Dan 9:27b, "And at that temple he will set upon abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him." It further states in Dan 11:31a, "His armed forces will rise up to desecrate the temple fortress and will abolish the daily sacrifice." He continues saying, "he will set up the abomination that causes desolation." Jesus warns in Matthew 24:16, "let those who are in Judaea flee to the mountains." He further warns people not to stop to get anything but to just go.
8. What does Revelation say the False Prophet will "perform on behalf of The Beast" in the NIV?

Answer: Signs

The False Prophet works for the Antichrist. They both work for Satan. According to Charles Swindoll (the evangelical preacher who founded 'Insight for Living'), the Beast in Revelation is the Antichrist.
9. According to Revelation 11:7, who will kill the two witnesses?

Answer: The Beast (aka The Antichrist)

The Bible goes on to say people will celebrate in the streets and give each other gifts. But, after 3.5 days they will be brought back to life by God.

The two witnesses are not named, though many scholars believe it will be Moses and Elijah, who appeared with Jesus in Matthew 17. However, some speculate it could be Enoch and Elijah, since neither died according to Genesis 5:24 and 2 Kings 2:11. But no one knows for sure. In Revelation 11, the two witnesses are sent to "prophesy for 1,260 days" according to verse three.
10. What does the Bible say will happen eventually to the Unholy Trinity?

Answer: They will be cast into the Lake of Burning Sulfur (aka Lake of Fire)

The False Prophet and the Antichrist will be there first Satan will then join them later. Revelation 20:15 "Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire."
