Jonah was a prophet of God best known for spending three days in the belly of a fish. God instructed Jonah to go to Ninevah and preach His word to the people there so that their hearts may be turned towards Him. When Jonah disobeyed and went to Tarshish instead, God caused a fierce storm to blow. Jonah realised that he was the cause of the storm and asked the ship's crew to throw him overboard. He was then swallowed by a fish and spent three days inside the creature before finally being spit out on land.
