Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who won Lord Stanley's Cup in 2003?

Answer: New Jersey

A well-fought series came down to home-ice advantage and the Devils took it in 7.
2. Who was the top seed in the East?

Answer: Ottawa

They were also the #1 team in the NHL, though they lost in the 7th game against New Jersey, in the Eastern Conference Final.
3. Who was the top seed in the West?

Answer: Dallas

They were eliminated by the 'Anaheim Miracle Ducks' in the second round, though (Conference semi-finals).
4. Who won the Eastern Conference?

Answer: New Jersey

That was a great series, though I would've liked Ottawa to win. The seventh game was really close, and it was a great series.
5. Who won the Western Conference?

Answer: Anaheim

Giguere did great and let up only one goal. In my opinion, he became the greatest playoff goaltender of all times. Though he performed like a veteran, it was only his first year in the playoffs.
6. How many series did Anaheim sweep?

Answer: 2

Detroit and Minnesota. Though the scoreboard won't tell you so, both were really close series.
7. How many games did the final series go?

Answer: 7

Game 1: New Jersey 3-0. Game 2: New Jersey 3-0. Game 3: Anaheim 3-2 (1OT). Game 4: Anaheim 1-0 (1OT). Game 5: New Jersey 6-3. Game 6: Anaheim 5-2. Game 7: New Jersey, 3-0.
8. What goaltender had the lowest GAA (Goals Against Average) throughout the playoffs?

Answer: Jean-Sebastian Giguere

He won the Conn Smythe Trophy (Playoff MVP), and was Anaheim's leader throughout the playoffs.
9. Which of the following teams did not advance to the second round?

Answer: Detroit

Detroit was swept in the first round by the magical Ducks. The Ducks managed to knock off the defending Stanley Cup Champions and the #1 seed, along with the other 'Cinderella' team, Minnesota.
10. Which team led the playoffs in penalty kill percentage?

Answer: Detroit

They had a 100% penalty kill against the Ducks in the first round. They only played four games, but didn't let up a powerplay goal in either. New Jersey came close to having the same percentage until their discipline fell apart in game 6.
