Answer: True

Óscar Freire rode for Team Rabobank. There was a breakaway 35km into the stage. The peloton caught them 7km away from the finish. Levi was stilled in gold after Stage 11 was completed.
2. In Stage 12, what team tried to place a rider in the breakaway, but failed?

Answer: Tinkoff Credit Systems

The Stage 12 breakaway started 10km into the stage, containing three riders. Alejandro Valverde dropped out of the top ten in the overall standings, after finishing three minutes after the stage winner, Paolo Bettini crossed the line. Egoi Martínez still maintained the golden jersey after Stage 12. Stage 12 was a mountain stage, and David Moncoutié would hold the King of the Mountains jersey at the end of the day.
3. What Euskaltel-Euskadi rider broke his collarbone in a crash, while climbing the Alto de El Angliru in Stage 13?

Answer: Igor Antón

Euskaltel-Euskadi was trying to get Igor in the top ten, since Egoi Martinez was obviously going to lose the golden jersey in Stage 13. While climbing the Alto de El Angliru, Igor crashed and broke his collarbone. That was the second broken collarbone of the 2008 Vuelta a España.

The first one being Ricardo Serrano, who broke his in Stage 3. Alberto Contador would eventually win the stage and claim the golden jersey. Levi would take second place. Alberto would also get the combination jersey.
4. In Stage 14, before what mountain did an eight-man chase get away from the peloton?

Answer: San Tirso

The San Tirso is a third category climb. The breakaway began just 25km into the stage. On the descent, three riders joined them. Alberto Contador would win the stage, second place would go to his teammate Levi Leiphimer. Alberto would have the golden, the white, and the points classification jersey at the end of the stage.
5. In Stage 15, the breakaway succeeded. David García crossed the line first. How long did it take the peloton to cross the finish, after David crossed the line?

Answer: 14 minutes and 23 seconds

The peloton didn't act on the breakaway because the riders in it weren't any where near the top ten. The greatest distance between the peloton and the breakaway was 17 minutes. David rode for Xacobeo-Galicia. The breakaway formed about 50km into the stage. The top ten stayed the same and Alberto Contador still had the three jerseys.
6. Stage 16 came down to a sprint finish. What team did the stage winner ride for?

Answer: Quick Step

Tom Boonen won the stage. It was his second stage win of the 2008 Vuelta a España. There was a breakaway in the stage, but it was caught about 7km from the finish. Tom would not start Stage 18, therefore was out of the 2008 Vuelta. Alberto maintained all three jerseys after Stage 16.
7. There were two people in Stage 17s breakaway. What were their names?

Answer: Pedro Horrillo and José Ruiz

The breakaway was caught about 7km from the finish. Pedro Horrillo rode for Team Rabobank. José Ruiz rode for Andalucía-Cajasur. Wouter Weylandt wound up winning the stage. There was no change in the top ten. Alberto Contador still maintained the golden jersey.
8. In Stage 18, there was an 18-man breakaway. Who was the best placed rider in the breakaway?

Answer: Nicolas Roche

Nicolas was 17th overall when the stage started. The peloton didn't let the breakaway get too far away because of Nicolas. Nicolas almost won the stage, but Imanol Erviti had a last second move that won the stage for him. Imanol almost won Stage 17, but attacked too early. Alberto still had the golden jersey.
9. What team had four riders in Stage 19's breakaway?

Answer: Caisse d'Epargne

Stage 19's breakaway had 14 riders. The riders had to do two short circuits before the finish. Vasili Kiryienka almost won, but was beat out by David Arroyo. Vasili Kiryienka rode for Tinkoff Credit Systems. David Arroyo rode for Caisse d'Epargne. Alberto finished eleven seconds behind David, still having a hold of the gold jersey.
10. Stage 20 was an individual time trial. The first and second palce finishers were teammates.

Answer: True

Levi Leiphimer won the time trial by 31 seconds. That was his second win of the 2008 Vuelta a España. He won both individual time trials. Alberto Contador got mad at Levi for winning the stage. He didn't want Levi to take the golden jersey away from him. They both rode for Astana.
