Poland won the historic first gold medal of the event ahead of Dominican Republic, the surprise silver medal winner, and United States winning the bronze. The men were the lead and anchor runners with the second and third run by the women.
2. The winners of both 400m events for men and women came from what island nation?

Answer: Bahamas

Bahamas won both events: Steven Gardiner won the men's event with compatriot, Shaunae Miller-Uibo winning the women's event. Shaune successfully defended the title she won at Rio 2016.

Kirani James won the bronze medal. He won this event at London 2012 and the silver medal at Rio 2016 to complete his collection of all the three types of medals.
3. Which country won the men's 100m sprint and 4 x 100m relay after domination by Jamaica in the last three Games at Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016?

Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herah won the event in OR time of 10.61 sec. beating the previous record held Florence Griffith Joyner of 10.62 sec, set over 30 years earlier at the 1988 Seoul. Compatriots Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce won the silver in 10.74 sec and Shericka Jackson the bronze in 10.76 sec.

Elaine Thompson-Herah became the first woman to become a double-double winner of the 100m and 200m sprints. She won the two events at 2016 Rio. She won her third gold medal with Jamaica winning the 4 x 100m relay.
5. The gold medal was shared by two male athletes in what event?

Answer: High jump

Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar and Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy shared the gold medal in high jump. Both athletes cleared the height of 2.37m with the same number of attempts. Maksim Nedaesekau of Belarus won the bronze with the same height but he lost on the countback.

The 20 km walk events were for men and women were won by Italy. Massimo Stano won the men's event and Antonella Palmisano the women's event. David Tomala of Poland won the men's 50 km walk.

Kenya won the marathon events for both men and women. Peres Jepchirchir was the gold medallist for the women's event. Eliud Kipchoge repeated his victory he won at Rio 2016. He became the third man to win back-to-back marathon titles after Abebe Bikila of Ethiopia in 1960 and 1964, and Waldemar Cierpinski of former East Germany in 1976 and 1980.
