Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What player in 1969 showed up on the field and was allowed to play with one glove on his hand, and another in his back pocket?

Answer: Clay Dalrymple

This happened in July of 1969 in Baltimore. Dalrymple took the field as a catcher and kept a fielder's glove in his back pocket just in case he was called upon to play infield. No rule stated anything against it at the time and he was allowed for the time being. Of course, Oriole manager Earl Weaver had 'his time' with the umpires.

The rules were later changed as to what 'essential equipment' was needed.
2. As of the end of the 2000 season, who holds the record for base hits in a season?

Answer: George Sisler

257 by George in 1920 while playing with St.Louis of the American League. What a milestone with the players of today.
3. What team did Kerry Wood pitch for when he struck out 20 batters in a game?

Answer: Cubs

It was against Houston on May 6, 1998. He shares the record with Roger Clemens who did it twice.
4. In what year did Walter Johnson retire?

Answer: 1927

In the big year of the New Yorkers, 1927 was his last year after a 20 year career.
5. Which of the following was NOT a NL umpire?

Answer: Randall Chapman

Randall Chapman is like the Cisco Kid. He was a friend of mine!
