Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who qualified on pole position?

Answer: Fernando Alonso

Renault driver Alonso edged out Toyota's Trulli, setting a time of 1 min 14.412 secs. Raikkonen initially qualified third, but would drop ten places to thirteenth after an engine change. Michael Schumacher inherited that third.
2. Nobody retired on the first lap. What was the order of the last four cars? (in order 17th-20th)

Answer: Karthikeyan, Friesacher, Monteiro, Albers

Incidentally, the order did not change from their starting positions. Christian Klien, who was running sixteenth, was the first retirement on lap two with fuel pressure problems.
3. How many cars retired in total?

Answer: Five

As well as Klien, the two Minardis of Albers and Friesacher both retired with punctures on laps 38 and 34 respectively, Massa retired with hydraulic problems, after 31 laps, as did Montoya, who went out on lap 47.
4. On what lap did Nick Heidfeld make his first pit-stop?

Answer: 18

Heidfeld pitted on lap 18, one lap earlier than team-mate Mark Webber. Race leader Alonso pitted on lap 20.
5. Who finished the race in sixth place?

Answer: Giancarlo Fisichella

Fisichella finished where he started, but he should have been fourth. He stalled at his final pit-stop and lost valuable time. Ralf finished seventh, ahead of JV and Barrichello.
6. Which car set the fastest speed through the speed trap?

Answer: Minardi

Amazingly, Christijan Albers in his underpowered Minardi set the fastest speed. His Minardi was set up to extract as much straight-line speed as possible. This meant the car was very hard to handle in the slower parts of the circuit.
7. Who won the race?

Answer: Fernando Alonso

Alonso finished just under twelve seconds clear of a flying Raikkonen. Michael Schumacher finished third and Trulli was fifth, behind Jenson Button.
8. How many cars finished on the lead lap?

Answer: Three

Only the podium finishers were on the lead lap, and even Michael Schumacher was inches away from being lapped. Everyone finishing fourth to eleventh was one lap down, Webber was two laps down, Monteiro was three laps down and Nick Heidfeld and Karthikeyan were four laps down.
9. What circuit was the race held at?

Answer: Magny Cours

Magny-Cours hosted the race. Former venues include Reims and Paul-Ricard. Paul-Ricard became a major testing venue.
10. How long is the circuit (in miles)?

Answer: 2.741

70 laps of the 2.741 mile circuit were completed, covering a total distance of 191.755 miles.
