Despite the children clapping for her and being visibly excited, Kristin's shot goes over a bridge and almost hits onlookers. The children wonder what's wrong while Kristin sighs in disappointment and asks for some water. We then see her walk home.

A neighbor is frightened when she notices that the water coming from the sprinklers is red. She soon realizes that it's blood and drops her phone as she tries to figure out what to do. Detectives Winters and Jaruszalski arrive on the scene to investigate and discover that the blood came from Kristin Halstead's head.

The golfer was beaten up, which indicates that she was murdered and likely targeted. When the detectives search Halstead's home, they find evidence that she traveled a lot and nothing to suggest she was involved in a relationship.

However, Winters finds several unpaid bills and collection notices on a desk, which they find surprising since she is a professional golfer. They conclude that Halstead probably had to borrow from "the wrong people".

Answer: Las Vegas

Detectives Winters and Jaruszalski are informed by the medical examiner that the victim had some pre-mortem fingermarks, indicating that she likely was hurt by someone before her death. When they trace her movements, they discover she had been making numerous calls to someone who happened to be in the same cities that a professional golf tour was visiting.

They believe that she was calling another golfer. The pool of suspects gets narrower when Winters remembers that there was a celebrity poker tournament in Las Vegas, which was not a stop on the golf tour. Winters then pulls up the website for the poker tournament, which took place at the Bellagio, and confirms that superstar golfer Chip Jarrow was at the tournament.

The detectives visit golfer Chip Jarrow to ask him about the tournament and the phone calls that Halstead made. Jarrow claims that the phone was his, but there was no romantic involvement between them since Halstead was supposedly a lesbian. This line of inquiry leads them to Carly Morris, who confirms she was in a brief relationship with Halstead. Carly says she is a design student and works as a waitress, but the detectives are puzzled to find expensive items in her home and that Carly is not even a student. Later, Winters and Jaruszalski find out that Carly actually works as a waitress at a bar and nightclub called the A.K. Lounge.

Her parents openly say they know she "serves drinks to rich guys", and that one of her customers flew her to North Carolina on a jet where caviar was served.

The police briefly question Carly, who reveals she was in a brief relationship with Kristin and then with Chip. It turns out that Chip apparently knew about this and, via several text messages, was threatening to expose Kristin as a lesbian. Similarly, Kristin was threatening to expose Jarrow's cheating. This discovery leads the detectives to go to Chip's home, where they find a violent scene unfolding in the pool as Jarrow's wife is attacking her husband with a golf club. Jarrow quickly says that he was sleepwalking, fell into the pool, and his wife was trying to save him, but it is very evident that his wife, Monica, had physically assaulted Chip.

This scene, and some of the episode's plotline, appears to be based on real-life events surrounding golfer Tiger Woods and a confrontation with his then-wife Elin Nordegren. Much like in the episode, Nordegren allegedly attacked Woods and his car with a golf club while claiming Woods had been unfaithful to her.

Once the fight is over and paramedics arrive at the scene, the Jarrows insist there is nothing to worry about and refuse to talk about Chip's alleged infidelity. Luke Jarrow, the couple's son, briefly comes out to ask what happened, but his mother tells him to go back to his room. Promptly, Jarrow's lawyer arrives at the house and asks the detectives to leave unless they plan to place someone under arrest.

As the detectives leave the house, they find Deputy District Attorney Jonah Dekker waiting for them, leaning on a car. Dekker says he followed the scene on police scanners, as he found it curious that a murder suspect was involved in a domestic dispute.

The detectives and the prosecutor agree that no person can be in two places at once, so someone must be lying about Chip's whereabouts the night of Halstead's murder.

Answer: He checked into rehab

The police find out that Chip's wife, Monica, is fully aware of her husband's cheating. According to Chip's caddy, she first found out 10 years ago and had Chip enter into a postnuptial agreement where she receives a million dollars every time Chip is caught. Though the caddy explains that Monica still hates Chip nonetheless, the detectives are not convinced that she would kill anyone to protect her marriage. When the police execute the search warrant, Monica tells them that Chip is in a rehabilitation program for sex addiction. The detectives then find a blunt weapon with blood traces in the bathroom, which they quickly conclude is the murder weapon.

As if the parallel to the Tiger Woods controversy wasn't already clear, he is explicitly mentioned by DDA Stanton halfway through the episode, saying that "between Chip Jarrow and Tiger Woods, the sex rehab industry is covered".

Answer: Pacific Palisades

The detectives realize that Chip's alibi is solid, but that his wife framing him would not make sense if she stood to lose money too. To understand what could have happened the night of the murder, the detectives and district attorneys decide to interview teenager Luke Jarrow. They go to West Palisades High School, located in the Pacific Palisades, to chat with Luke. The interview reveals Luke may know more than he has been saying, but DDA Stanton orders the detectives to stop to ensure Luke is with an attorney during questioning.

The Pacific Palisades is an affluent L.A. neighborhood near Santa Monica. In January 2025, the Palisades, along with several other locations in the Los Angeles area, suffered a heartbreaking fire caused by a combination of strong winds and very dry conditions. The fire took weeks to contain and caused more than 10 deaths and severe structural damage.

Answer: He vandalized his father's Ferrari

Upon finding a list with Kristin Halstead's address in Luke Jarrow's car, the police formally take him in as a suspect. Luke insists that his father is the guilty one, and defends his mother while berating his father and his cheating habits. Luke even uses the same language about his dad that his mother does, showing how much influence Monica's words have on her son. DDA Stanton shows DDA Dekker an arrest report for Luke, which says he was arrested for smashing Chip's new Ferrari with a baseball bat. The prosecutors use this information to argue Luke has proclivities for violence, and that his mother may have taken advantage of this to have Chip's supposed mistress killed.

The prosecution tries to argue that Luke has Parental Alienation Syndrome, a condition where a parent "brainwashes" a child to hate the other parent. Although the judge rules evidence of PAS inadmissible, this decision has the consequence of allowing them to charge Luke with murder instead of less serious manslaughter charges.

Answer: Both Monica and Luke Jarrow

Under the prosecution's threat of charging Luke as an adult for murder, the Jarrow parents, their attorney, and the district attorneys meet to figure out a way to avoid this. Chip offers to take the blame if it will save Luke, but Monica doesn't allow it. Monica says he will not swoop in as the hero after he has failed to be present for most of his son's life. Mrs. Jarrow confesses that she provoked Luke into murdering Halstead and supported him by providing the address where he would execute the killing. Monica explains that Kristin was going to "ruin it all" if Chip's cheating scandals were exposed (and therefore, the payments to Monica would stop). Mrs. Jarrow says that she had put up with too much humiliation over the years, and she thought Luke would only serve a few years in prison because he was a minor.

In the end, the prosecution entered into a plea agreement where Monica admitted to manslaughter while Luke received a lesser sentence as a juvenile. The episode concludes with Dekker and Stanton watching Chip Jarrow, seemingly unbothered, playing golf and doing well.
