Clarke, born on January 16th, 1972 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada landed the guest starring role of Scott Dunn for this episode of the series' second season. While at the crime scene, Richard mentioned to Lanie how his book, "Heat Wave", was being made into a motion picture. He asked her which actress she felt could best portray her in the film. Lanie immediately mentioned how she would very much like to have Halle Berry portray her in the movie.

While at the morgue, Richard and Kate listened to Lanie give details about her investigation on the deceased victim. Near the beginning of the episode, Richard and Kate spoke about how interesting the bullets looked from the victim's body since they spelled out Nikki Heat. Someone who was connected to the crime was brought to police headquarters so Richard and Kate could interview him. They noticed a bandage on his pinky and therefore removed it to discover codes. The team had a difficult time pinpointing the killer in this episode since he was a very intelligent serial murderer who utilized difficult clues in regards to his kills. Richard, Kate and the rest of the team descended upon a building near the end of the episode as they closed in on the killer. However, the killer escaped so the team looked through his apartment to find out more clues regarding his next kill. They were surprised to see that he tried to put together a bomb there.
