Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When was the first Road Runner and Coyote cartoon created?

Answer: 1949

"Fast and Furry-ous" was the first Road Runner and Coyote cartoon. In this cartoon we first saw one of Coyote's most famous traps, the painted tunnel. Somehow Road Runner can always run right through Coyote's fake, painted tunnels, but when Coyote tries to run through, he either hits the stone wall or goes through his painted backdrop.
2. Who was the creator of Road Runner and Coyote?

Answer: Chuck Jones

Charles "Chuck" Jones was born on September 21, 1912. He became an animator for Warner Bros. in 1936. He was the director of many Road Runner cartoons until 1965. Jones left the studio prior to the closing of the Warner Bros. animation department before it was revived by DePatie/Freleng enterprises. Jones returned to Warner Bros. in 1979 to work on "The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie" and "Bugs Bunny's Looney Christmas".

In 1994, he directed "Chariots of Fur", the first Road Runner cartoon in almost 30 years.

After Jones left, most of the Road Runner cartoons were directed by Rudy Larriva, and a few were directed by Friz Freleng and Robert McKimson. The best Road Runner and Coyote cartoons are still considered to be those from the Chuck Jones era.
3. Coyote buys most of his traps and gadgets from what company?

Answer: Acme

After Coyote has had so many accidents and mishaps with his own traps, he should realize the Acme products aren't too reliable for catching road runners. He has bought everything from bird seed and iron pellets to super speed tonics and explosives from Acme. In one cartoon, he even ordered a used fighter plane from the company.
4. Which of these is not true about road runners?

Answer: They can see in the dark

In the second cartoon, "Beep Beep", Coyote sets a trap for Road Runner that consists of a fake glass of water on a box. When the glass is picked up, it would light a TNT inside the box. However Road Runner passes it by and holds up a sign that says, "Road Runners can't read and don't drink". Next Coyote chases him into an underground mine. Since Road Runner donned a lighted helmet, we assume he couldn't see clearly in the dark.
5. Wile E. Coyote also wanted to eat which other "Looney Tunes" character?

Answer: Bugs Bunny

In a few cartoons, Wile E. Coyote is living in a cave right outside Bugs Bunny's hole. He set many traps for Bugs, including an exploding female rabbit, a flying saucer, fake carrots filled with nitroglycerin, and even filling the rabbit hole with cement.

In these cartoons, Coyote has a regular speaking voice. Some of the Bugs/Coyote cartoons are "Operation Rabbit", "Rabbit's Feat", "To hare is human", "Compressed Rabbit", and "Hare-breadth Hurry".
6. Coyote once resigned his job as chasing Road Runner.

Answer: True

At the end of the cartoon "Guided Muscle", Coyote steps on the dynamite he had buried in the road intended for Road Runner. After he gets blasted, he puts a sign out in the middle of the road that says, "Wanted: one guillible coyote. Apply to theater manager". Then he drags across the "That's all, folks" screen.
7. Road Runner and Coyote appeared in the "Looney Tunes" movie "Daffy Duck's Quackbusters".

Answer: False

They didn't appear in Daffy Duck's movie, but they were in "The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie". "Daffy Duck's Quackbusters" has Daffy as the heir of a rich dog's fortune and the ways he and his business partners, Porky and Bugs, get along. The millionaire makes Daffy promise he will use his money for worthy causes, or he will take it all back! Of course, Daffy loses all his money being greedy and unfair to his partners.
8. Did Coyote ever catch Road Runner?

Answer: Yes

In the cartoon "Soup or Sonic", Coyote finally has the chance to catch Road Runner. Coyote follows him through a maze of pipes, and somehow, when they exit, Road Runner is huge and Coyote is miniature! Coyote puts his arms around one of Road Runner's huge legs, but he doesn't know what to do since Road Runner is so big.
9. Road Runner once competed in a race against which other "Looney Tunes" character?

Answer: Speedy Gonzales

Friz Freleng directed the 1965 cartoon "The Wild Chase", which paired Road Runner in a race with Speedy Gonzales. However Coyote and Sylvester were working together to bring down and eat the two competitors.
10. What was Coyote's nickname in the cartoons with Sam Sheepdog?

Answer: Ralph Wolf

In these cartoons, Sam and Ralph (who was supposed to be Coyote, only with a red nose), would clock in to work with Sam, protecting a flock of sheep from the hungry Ralph. However at the end of their work day, Sam and Ralph were good friends. Some of the Sam/Ralph cartoons were "Ready, Woolen and Able", "Steal Wool", and "Sheep Ahoy".
