Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This alacritous hero was struck by lightning after a visit to Starling City.

Answer: Barry

The term "alacritous" refers to The Flash's speed. On the CW series, Barry went to Starling City, home to the Arrow and Felicity Smoak, and when he returned home to Central City was hit by a lightning strike. The strike occurred just as the dark matter from the particle accelerator hit him. When he awoke from a coma nine months later, he was the "fastest man alive". Though, that particular title did not remain intact- i.e. Zoom.

Grant Gustin originated the role of Barry Allen for the CW Network on "Arrow".
2. The first of many "chosen ones" we saw, to be brought forth to save mankind from the "forces of darkness".

Answer: Buffy

Buffy was the first "chosen one" on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", but ultimately was one of hundreds when all was said and done. "In every generation there is a chosen one. One girl in all the world..."

Buffy was played by Sarah Michelle Gellar for seven seasons. In season seven Willow used the essence of a mystical scythe to make all "potentials" into actual slayers.
3. This hero had a group of pals known as the Scooby Gang.

Answer: Buffy

A term coined early on in the series, Scooby Gang was inspired by Scooby Doo's original pals on the cartoon. Xander labeled them the Scooby Gang, and many other characters called them Scoobies, including Spike and Tara. The original Scoobies on "Buffy" were Giles, Willow, Xander, and Buffy herself. Later, Angel, Cordy, Oz, Tara, Anya, Spike, and Dawn were all in that group.
4. In the first two seasons, this hero and said companions used the undamaged portion of S.T.A.R. labs as a base of operations.

Answer: Barry

Eobard Thawne, in the skin of Dr. Harrison Wells, set in motion an event in which the particle accelerator inside the lab would fail. Dark matter was released, and that resulted in the creation of metahumans like Barry. Thawne needed more speed in order to return to his time, which was many many years into the future. Eobard, the descendant of Eddie Thawne, was also known as the Reverse Flash, and killed Barry's mom when he was a child.
5. He or she faced Big Bads like the Master, Angelus, Adam, Glory, and the First.

Answer: Buffy

The Master was her first Big Bad, and he killed her at the end of season one. Xander resuscitated her, and she returned the favor and killed the Master. She faced Angelus in season two, Adam in season four, Glory in season five, and the First in season seven. The First could take the physical persona of any dead person it wanted, but was not able to have corporeal form. It could not touch anything itself. Buffy met the First in season three, but it was not a Big Bad until season seven.

I first heard the term Big Bad here on "BtVS", but have since heard it used on other shows. In the first two seasons, I did not hear the term on "The Flash".
6. Who revealed the truth and was able to get his/her father out of prison?

Answer: Barry

Barry's father, Dr. Henry Allen, had been convicted for the murder of Barry's mother. He spent about 15 years in Iron Heights Prison before Barry was able to get him out. John Wesley Shipp first played Henry on this version of "The Flash". But, he also played Barry Allen on the 1990s version of the series.

At the end of season two, it was revealed that Earth-1 Henry Allen was known as Jay Garrick/The Flash on another Earth (not Earth-2). Talk about Shipp coming full circle on his role as The Flash. Buffy's father Hank (a derivative of Henry) abandoned them all and was not heard from again after season six.
7. Of these two heroes, the one who's known to wear a red suit to hide their identity.

Answer: Barry

Barry's red suit, designed by friend and colleague Cisco Ramon, helped Barry hide his identity. But, it also also helped in other ways as well. It made him more aerodynamic and flame retardant. Barry could run fast, but he could also throw lightning bolts and open wormholes.
8. Briefly lost powers, alternate version was shown on screen, and mother died.

Answer: Buffy and Barry

Buffy lost her powers in season three as part of a test by the Watchers' Council, we saw an alternate version of her in "The Wish" (and the episode "Nightmares"), and her mother died in season five. Barry lost his powers in season two when he surrendered them to save Wally West, we saw an alternate version of him on Earth-2, and his mom died prior to the series start. Though it was prior, we also witnessed his mother's death when he went back in time to try and save her from Reverse Flash.
9. Went back in time more than once.

Answer: Barry

Barry went back in time for one day to save his friends from Reverse Flash at the end of season one. Then he went back in time again, and saved himself (as a child) from Reverse Flash. He wanted to save his mother, but did not do so that time. At end of season two, he went back in time again and saved his mother's life.

Buffy never traveled in time.
10. He/she died at least twice, once by drowning and once by closing a magical portal.

Answer: Buffy

On screen she technically died four times, though once was in the bizarro world of "The Wish", and it was reversed. The other time was after she was shot by Warren, and her heart stopped briefly before Willow saved her. Her two official deaths were when she drowned after the Master bit her in season one, and when she was killed by mystical energy at the end of season five to close the portal opened by the Key.
