Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What's the name of the teacher in "Mind Your Language"?

Answer: Mr. Brown

Mr. Brown, in real life Barry Evans, has in himself a macabre history, becoming a taxi driver after completion of this series, and then being found dead in 1997, in his dilapidated bungalow, apparently having drunk himself to death.
2. What is the first episode (and, in my view, one of the best) called?

Answer: The First Lesson

The first episode shows Mr. Brown's first arrival at the evening school, which could become the scene of one of the most politically incorrect dramas ever.
3. "God Havvening", an arrest for shoplifting and many other quirks. Who does this remind you of?

Answer: Jamila Ranjha

Jamila Ranjha, played by Jamila Massey, plays an Indian Muslim with a uni-word vocabulary.
4. "Por Favor?" Need I say anything more?

Answer: Juan Cervantes

Juan Cervantes, played by Ricardo Montez, is another character with a uni, or I should rather say, bi-word vocabulary. Por Favor?
5. Ali Nadeem presents an unlimited voucher from Harrods to Mr. Brown on his birthday. What's the catch?

Answer: The voucher is from Harrods Second Hand Shop (Everything under one pound).

Ranjit Singh, Maximillian Papandrious, Juan Cervantes and Taro Nagazumi, at first all give Mr. Brown a pen, and then when asked to exchange their gifts, all give him wallets.
6. Who is of the view that only the work of Chairman Mao is worth leading (reading)?

Answer: Chung Su Lee

She is potrayed to have a rather fanatical Chairman Mao fixation.
7. What's the Principal's name?

Answer: Miss Courtney

A strict taskmistress who is vigorously anti-men, and makes Mr. Brown's life horrible.
8. In one of the episodes a forthcoming marriage is discussed. Which two students become engaged?

Answer: Ali Nadeem and Chung Su Lee

The proposed marriage breaks up when it comes to light that Ali Nadeem already has a wife.
9. What is the name of the affable tea-lady who is a valuble source of advice for Mr Brown?

Answer: Gladys

"10p a cup luv."
10. What was the American spin-off series known as?

Answer: What a Country

It starred Vijay Amritraj, an Indian tennis player who was completely miscast as Ali Nadeem and also featured Soviet comedian/defector Yakov Smirnoff (yes, really) as a Russian immigrant taxi driver.
