Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "The Gauntlet" was the first challenge in the series to offer which of the following?

Answer: Elimination Battles

"The Battle of the Seasons" was the first challenge to send people home, and "The Battle of the Sexes" was the first challenge to offer Life Shields for people who perform the best at the missions to protect themselves (or someone of their choice) from elimination. "The Gauntlet" was the first season to have people from each team who were voted off to face each other, with the winner returning to their team and the loser going home.

These face offs were appropriately referred to as "Gauntlets".
2. Which "Road Rules" competitor set a record when she went into and won five Gauntlets?

Answer: Sarah ("Campus Crawl")

Sarah was sent into the Gauntlet by her team 5 times. Keep in mind that there were only 14 Gauntlets. Sarah sent home David and Matt from "Real World: New Orleans", Rachel from "Real World: Back to New York", and both Trishelle and Irulan from "Real World: Las Vegas".
3. Who was the only "Real World" girl that made it to the finals?

Answer: Coral ("Back to New York")

Coral beat Tina in the Gauntlet while Irulan and Rachel lost to Sarah and Elka lost to Cara.
4. Which elimination game was played the most in the Gauntlet?

Answer: Dead Man's Drop

Dead Man's Drop was played four times, with Sarah beating David, Matt, and Irulan, and Coral beating Tina. Ride 'Em Cowboy and Perfect Fit were played three times, Knock Your Block Off was played twice, and both Hangman and Pole Climb were only played once.
5. Who were the only two "Real Worlders" to escape from going into the Gauntlet?

Answer: Nathan and Norman

By contrast, there were seven "Road Rulers" who never saw a Gauntlet. This is largely because "Road Rules" won nine of the 14 Gauntlets.
6. Which US Olympic gold medal winning skier had the honors of hosting this season, as well as the Battle of the Sexes challenges?

Answer: Johnny Moseley

Johnny Moseley hosted "The Gauntlet" and the "Battle of the Sexes" challenges, as well as a few reunion specials. Dave Mirra hosted the "Inferno" and "Inferno 2" challenges, and TJ Lavin hosted the challenge beginning with "The Gauntlet 2".
7. Where did "The Gauntlet" take place?

Answer: Telluride, Colorado

"The Gauntlet" took place in Colorado, while the original "Battle of the Seasons" challenge was in Cabo, "The Inferno" was in Acapulco, and the second "Battle of the Sexes" challenge was in Santa Fe.
8. For the second half of the challenge, players who performed the best at the mission will receive a life saver to keep them out of the Gauntlet. Which "Real Worlder" won the most life savers?

Answer: Alton

There were eight life savers won by each team and Alton won four of them. For "Road Rules", Adam, Theo, and Veronica won two life savers each.
9. In addition to protecting oneself from the Gauntlet, the life saver also allowed the player to cast the tie breaking vote if the team could not select someone to go into the Gauntlet. Who was the only player to utilize this feature?

Answer: Theo Von

After the "All or Nothing" mission, Theo won the life saver. "Road Rules" had a silent ballot system to select players to go into the Gauntlet, and the votes were tied between Abram and Sarah. Theo, who was friends with Sarah and also aware that Sarah had been in four Gauntlets to that point, sent Abram into the Gauntlet vs. Mike.
10. Despite having fewer players to compete in the final, the "Real World" team was looking pretty good. What unfortunate incident prevented them having a chance to beat "Road Rules"?

Answer: Coral was bitten by a spider

Coral is allergic to spiders and she was bit prior to the final and had to be taken to the hospital. She was initially unaware of the severity of the incident, so she slowed the team until they agreed to leave her behind and accept the 10 minute penalty.
