Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character was introduced to the public first?

Answer: Daffy Duck

Daffy first appeared in 1937, while Bugs didn't debut until 1940. My own favorite, Sylvester, didn't come along until 1945. Daffy's first role was in 'Porky's Duck Hunt'. The early Daffy looked more like a real duck, not taking on his present recognizable form until he was redesigned by director Bob Clampett.
2. Foghorn Leghorn, the bombastic, know it all rooster, delighted in bedeviling the barnyard dog, named what?

Answer: George P. Dog

George was regularly assaulted by the loud mouthed fowl, most notably with a board resoundingly applied to his posterior while sleeping peacefully.
3. Wile E. Coyote never spoke.

Answer: False

The forever hungry coyote spent an incredible amount of time, energy and, apparently, money in his quest to capture and devour the road runner. He never spoke in the road runner cartoons, but in several cartoons with Bugs Bunny as his intended prey, he spoke with a cultured accent, at one point presenting a card and introducing himself as 'Wile E. Coyote, Super Genius'.
4. Which of the following characters would not be considered an antagonist of the star of at least one Warner Brothers cartoon?

Answer: Miss Prissy

Miss Prissy's lone fault was in being love struck for Foghorn Leghorn. Blacque Jacque Shellacque was Bugs Bunny's foe in 'Wet Hare', Nasty Canasta came afoul of Sheriff Daffy in 'Dripalong Daffy' and the Shropshire Slasher was the guilty party in Daffy's 'Doorlock Homes'.
5. This bushy-browed, foul tempered individual sported a red mustache and usually a very large revolver, which was nearly always pointed at Bugs at some point. Name him.

Answer: Yosemite Sam

Yosemite Sam was developed in 1945 by Director Friz Freleng to provide a stronger, smarter adversary for Bugs Bunny. He thought Elmer Fudd was too weak a character. The Slasher appeared in 'Doorlock Holmes' with Daffy, and Evil Roy Slade was a very underrated live action comedy starring John Astin.
6. Tweety Bird, for whom Sylvester the Cat had a monumental craving, was owned by a sweet little old lady. By what name was she referenced?

Answer: Granny

'Granny' was the only name that was ever used to identify her. Tweety referred to her as 'Gwanny'.
7. Sylvester lost more than one battle to this playful animal, whom he always mistook for a large mouse. What animal?

Answer: A kangaroo

It was a kangaroo named Hippity Hopper, who first appeared in 1948. He always bested the hapless cat by punching or kicking the stuffing out of him. This mortified his son, Sylvester Junior, who at one point covered his head with a paper bag and remarked 'Oh, the shame! My father, beaten up by a mouse!'
8. Bugs saved the Earth from obliteration when he discovered a ray gun on Mars, which was aimed at the planet we call home. The weapon was manned by whom?

Answer: Marvin the Martian

Marvin was going to destroy the Earth because it blocked his view of Venus.
9. Warner's version of the three bears came along in 1944. The family consisted of Henry Bear, Mamma Bear and Junior. What was remarkable about Junior?

Answer: Although still in diapers, he was huge

Junior was far larger than his father and mother, somewhat clumsy and forever trying to do nice things for his volatile father. His attempts usually resulted in some kind of disaster befalling his Dad.
10. Mel Blanc provided most of the voice work for the Warner cartoon unit, but who supplied the female voices, when required, such as Granny and Witch Hazel?

Answer: June Foray

A tough one, I admit, but June Foray not only did work for Warner, she was still working in the business up until a few years ago. She provided the voices of Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Nell Fenwick, and many others. Interestingly, she succeeded Bea Benedaret at Warner.
