Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was NOT mentioned in Yappi's "I Forsee" column in the tabloid that Clyde Bruckman was reading in the convenience store?

Answer: Stephen King

The predictions were that Madonna and Kato Kaelin would have a rocky romance; J.D. Salinger would write a new novel and go on the talk show circuit to promote it; and Buddy Holly would resurface, having faked his own death, and headline next year's Lollapalooza.
2. What musical event was mentioned in Yappi's "I Forsee" column?

Answer: Lollapalooza

Bruckman had a lot of trouble pronouncing it, eventually asking the clerk what it was. The clerk responded apathetically by asking who Buddy Holly was.
3. The killer went to see a psychic because he wanted to know why he would do the things he would be doing. By what means did the psychic tell the future?

Answer: palm reading

She told him that she could see everything in his palms, but that she was a psychic rather than a psychologist. Then he started to hurt her hands and when she complained, he said that, being a psychic, she ought to have seen it coming. Then he killed her.
4. How did Scully and Mulder explain the entrails to the local detectives?

Answer: anthropomancy

The detectives thought it was satanic ritual, but Scully and Mulder said it was more likely anthropomancy: using entrails to divine one's own future. They suspected that the murderer's curiosity about his own future explained why all the victims had been "professional prognosticators."
5. Who did Yappi sense negative energy coming from?

Answer: Mulder

He was in the middle of his so-called reading when he lost his vision. He claimed that someone in the room was giving off negative energy and traced it to Mulder. When the local detectives asked Mulder to leave so that Yappi could continue his work, Scully leaned in and told him, "I can't take you anywhere."
6. What was NOT part of the APB the local detectives were going to put out based on Yappi's psychic reading?

Answer: religious

All along, Scully and Mulder had been criticizing Yappi's contributions as too vague to be any help, but the detectives seemed encouraged. The full APB was "white male, 17-34, with or without a beard, maybe a tattoo, who is impotent." The detectives left to put out the bulletin and Scully said "Might as well go home, Mulder; this case is solved."
7. What did Bruckman sell?

Answer: insurance

He was making a pitch to a family, but the husband didn't want to buy it, and Bruckman's sales technique left something to be desired.
8. What did Mr. Gordon, the young husband Bruckman was trying to sell his wares to, want to buy instead?

Answer: a boat

When the man told him that they were hoping to buy a boat, Bruckman told him, "Mr. Gordon, as a young husband, I think you're going to find that your new responsibilities to your family take precedence over your recreational needs." Gordon responded simply, "But this is a really good boat." Bruckman was obviously annoyed by the man's lack of perspective and lost his tact, saying, "You don't get it, do you, kid? Two years from now, while driving down Route 91, coming home to your wife and baby daughter, you're going to be hit head-on by a drunk driving a blue '87 mustang. You'll end up looking worse than sixty feet of bad road your body slides across after flying out your front windshield." The Gordons looked shocked, and Mr. Gordon admonished him, "Mister, you really need to work on your closing technique."
9. What did Bruckman take out of his refrigerator that he saw a human head in?

Answer: lettuce

The iceberg lettuce was rotting, but as he looked at it, he saw a human head in the bag. He promptly threw it in the trash.
10. Bruckman went to get Mrs. Lowe's garbage when he was taking his own out, but what did she give him first?

Answer: lighter

She seemed hard of hearing, and first gave him her lighter. As she went back into the apartment to get the garbage, Bruckman looked at her dog Queequeg, whom he saw chewing on Mrs. Lowe's entrails. When Mrs. Lowe returned with her trash, Bruckman asked, "Is everything alright, Mrs. Lowe? Do you have enough supplies? You have enough dog food?" She didn't respond, though, and just shut the door on him.
