Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which earlier "CSI" game is "Hard Evidence" modeled on?

Answer: CSI - 3 Dimensions of Murder

"Three Dimensions of Murder" was one of the more innovative "CSI" games. Players were now able to move (and turn around) evidence, crime scenes and locations at every conceivable angle or dimension (hence the name). In addition, players were prompted whenever a warrant was available. These features and others are incorporated into "Hard Evidence".
2. Which "CSI" main character accompanies players in the first case?

Answer: Nick

Nick Stokes is one of the more likable members of the cast; charming, polite, sensitive and thoughtful. In the first season on TV he tried to help a hooker, whom he later fell for, only to become a suspect when she was later murdered, poor Nick!
3. Which of the following crimes is in the game's first case?

Answer: All of these

A scorched cab is found in a deserted alleyway - with a scorched cabbie inside! At first police and players feel sorry for the deceased, but later learn he is a thug/neo-nazi/criminal and bigot.
The best "CSI" cases are usually the ones where it turns out the victim deserved it!
4. Which of the following game features is new to "CSI" PC games?

Answer: Collecting bugs

Gil Grissom is famous for his obsession with bugs, insects, and vermin (and not the kind on two legs!). He believes (and he's usually right) that finding insects at crime scenes can help determine time of death, cause of death and the identity of perpetrators.
In this game one can collect one bug per crime scene for a "thank you" from Grissom during evaluations. Unfortunately, it doesn't make him any nicer if you missed something!
5. Which CSI does not accompany players in any one of the five cases?

Answer: Sara Sidle

Although Sara does not accompany players in any cases she does help in case #1 by popping into the lab with hints, questions and information. She is also contactable via cellphone as well as Captain Brass (the cellphone is another new "CSI" game feature in "Hard Evidence").
In all other "CSI: Las Vegas" PC games there are five CSIs for five cases, but since Greg Sanders has been promoted to field investigator, game designers have to juggle personnel.
6. In case #2, the young woman stabbed in her bed was pregnant before the attack.

Answer: True

She had been artificially impregnated by a multi-millionaire who wanted a son. The millionaire's wife is also pregnant (but with a girl) and extremely jealous - as demonstrated by the murder attempt. She did not expect the evidence to point to her, but it always does!
7. Which CSI accompanies players in the second case?

Answer: Catherine

On TV and in the game Catherine Willows is second-in-command in all but name. She is the only CSI with a child, a little girl who sometimes visits the police station.
8. Why is the third case "Rock Shock" so named?

Answer: Musicians are electrocuted

Four rockers and their new singer have just died on stage after an unexpected power surge. Warwick Brown accompanies players on this case. Whenever he needs a signature for handwriting analysis, he cleverly pretends to be a fan and asks the suspect for an autograph.
9. How many suspects in this case appear (and/or have children who appear) in a later case?

Answer: Three

The deceased band's manager and one of their ex-wives are both suspects. Both have children who are rivals and have a shoot-out in the final case. Both parents subsequently become police suspects again.
10. In case number four, why is the principle witness to the murder not such a good witness?

Answer: She is mostly blind

Not only is the victim's wife blind, she also turns out to be the murderer. Another reason why anything she says cannot be trusted!
11. What nationality is the family in case #4?

Answer: India Indians

This family has very strict beliefs from the old country, i.e. the daughter is expected to marry her father's business partner whom she can't stand. Her father, the deceased, actually turns out to be responsible for his wife's blindness (he was an eye surgeon who made her sign a disclaimer before the failed surgery). It is no wonder mother and daughter both hated him!
12. Which TV series character is the players' partner in case #4?

Answer: Greg

Greg Sanders was originally a lab technician (or a "lab rat" as everyone affectionately called him) with a memorable sense of humour. He "hinted" so often that he would rather be a field agent, and finally got his wish, but in this game it is clear that Grissom still does not think much of Greg because he can often be seen teasing or belittling poor Greg. Perhaps he does not mean it negatively, but it certainly does not help Greg's confidence...
13. Which of the deceased's family confesses to the murder in case #4?

Answer: Both

In true "CSI" form, the evidence finally proves who the killer is. The killer is found to have been left-handed (by examining the blood spatter) and the daughter is right-handed. She confessed to save her mother, who only did it to protect her from a forced marriage and an angry father. The fact the father was responsible for the mother's blindness is also a motive for the crime.
14. What is unusual about the three suspects in the final case?

Answer: All these things

The two less-responsible triplets were involved in the shooting that killed a young man (whose father was also in case 3), albeit accidentally, but their mother had been "intimate" with the deceased and they had brought guns along for a confrontation.

The other brother confessed to the shooting as soon as the police arrived, because he wanted to protect his foolish triplets. Players and Grissom soon learn that the deceased was shot from more than one angle.
15. The death in case 5 turns out to be an accident.

Answer: True

The triplets did not mean to kill the poor boy, things got out of hand during a misunderstanding. The deceased worked at a wild west souvenir shop, and when the fight started he'd grabbed a gun called (ironically) a peacemaker!
