It's about time. With five previous regions and six houses (thanks to "Black2" and "White2" providing a second in the fifth generation), your mother is given her very own room. As unimportant as it is, it has been seen as a step forward for the character's mom who typically fell victim to the "living in the kitchen" jokes. Your mother does have a much more developed story line to her than previous mother's in that this time the characters mother is a professional and widely known Rhyhorn racer.

The roller skating is a new feature to the game that can be used almost anywhere with the exception of most buildings, water routes and caves.

Route 1 is, as of the sixth generation, one of the shortest routes in "Pokémon" history. It is also the only empty route as of this generation. It is one straight road to the next town which can be reached in a second by running.

The nicknaming part is a new addition to the game when applied to your character. The addition is really quite unnecessary and your nickname holds no influence on the progression of the game. To top it off, it's a mandatory part of the game regardless.

Due to Route 1 being empty and as short as it is, the trip to and from home is very quick. When home you'll confirm your mother is a Rhyhorn racer and that that alone is what made Professor Sycamore become interested in recruiting you to help fill the Pokedex. You do not get Pokeballs from your rival until you're actually on Route 2.

The trip itself is, as short as it is, simply a time filler as there are no more battles after you battle Shauna until you've reached Route 2.

Answer: You will be given a step by step guide to battling and catching Pokemon during your battle

The first Pokémon you find will likely be Pidgey, but Zigzagoon is possible. Like most first encounters he'll be at a low level, usually 2. The Pokémon can be captured but only if you bought Pokeballs at the special ball shop in Aquacorde.

Answer: It has the same layout as the Viridian Forest

It's a nice throwback to the series' first generation. The forest even has a lot of the same Pokémon in it such as Caterpie, Weedle and even the rare Pikachu.

Answer: A Youngster named Joey

Route 3 is the region's first route with water that can be surfed on. When you get Surf later in the game you can return and surf over a pond to find a Dawn Stone. This is also one of two routes to have wild Dunsparce, the other being Route 22. Youngster Joey is actually back in Santalune Forest whereas Route 3 has mostly School Kids.

Answer: Buy vending machine beverages from the diner

The diner doesn't even have a door for some reason.
You can however, make the trade even though Farfetch'd can be caught in the wild in the route directly to the east (Route 22). Getting the roller skates is mandatory as the person who gives you them blocks the entrance of the gym until you battle her and win, which gets you the skates.
The city also introduces clothing stores which you can buy stuff to fancy up your character though it isn't exactly cheap, especially in clothing stores that appear later in the game.

Answer: Charlotte after 'Charlotte's Web' (the gym is on a giant web)

There are three trainers before the leader. The first trainer has a Ledyba and the second trainer uses Spewpa. The third trainer is Charlotte who says she'll trap you in her web. Charlotte uses a Kakuna and a Combee.

Answer: Using Water Sport to reduce fire damage to Vivillon

Viola's team consists of a Surskit and Vivillon. Surskit and Vivillon' moves are as followed.
Surskit - lv10 - Bubble, Quick Attack, Water Sport
Vivillon - lv12 - Infestation, Tackle, Harden

The main objective for Surskit is to set up Water Sport to weaken fire moves (Fennekin, Pansear and Litleo are all available prior to the gym) for five turns and help Vivillon. Vivillon will trap you in battle with Infestation and bulk its defense up with Harden.

When you win you'll be given the Bug Badge and the TM for Infestation.
