'Pokemon Yellow' - What Changed and Stayed Quiz

'Pokemon: Yellow Version' happens to be my favourite 'Pokemon' game as it has some nice features that weren't in 'Red/Green/Blue' versions. See if you spotted as many as I did. This game is for the Game Boy Colour. Enjoy :)

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In this game, instead of choosing between Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, you are given a Pikachu. What Pokemon does your rival start with?

Answer: Eevee

This Eevee was originally meant for you. Your rival got a bit hasty and decided he wanted that Pokemon, landing you with Pikachu.
2. In 'Red/Blue/Green', an old man in Viridian City shows you how to catch Pokemon. He catches a level 5 Weedle as his demonstration. Which of these statements is true about the change in 'Yellow'?

Answer: He doesn't catch the Pokemon

In 'Pokemon Yellow', the old man tries to catch a Rattata, but he only has one Pokeball. On his first attempt at showing you he misses the Rattata, so he goes to the Poke Mart to buy more Pokeballs for his next demonstration.
3. Because you were given a Pikachu as your starter Pokemon, it cannot be caught in 'Pokemon Yellow'.

Answer: true

Pikachu used to be available to catch in the Viridian Forest in 'Red/Green/Blue' versions. They replaced Pikachu in the Viridian Forest because in 'Pokemon Yellow' you can now catch a Pidgey and its evolved form Pidgeotto at a low level.
4. Is Mt. Moon redesigned in any way for 'Pokemon Yellow' from the previous versions?

Answer: no

Mt. Moon is not redesigned for 'Pokemon Yellow'. The floors are the same throughout Generation 1. Mt. Moon does get smaller in Generation 2. Mt. Moon is the first place you battle Jessie and James, the Team Rocket villains from the anime.
5. In 'Red/Blue/Green', your rival has a Pidgey/Pidgeotto/Pidgeot in his party. What does he have in 'Yellow'?

Answer: Spearow/Fearow

His team changes quite a bit between games. For the final battle in 'Yellow', he has a Sandslash, an Alazakam and an Exeggutor which have definate places in his party. He can also have a Ninetales, a Cloyster or a Magneton depending on which of the Eevee Evolutions his Eevee will evolve into (Jolteon/Vaporeon/Flareon).
Your rival first has this Spearow/Fearow when you battle him on Route 22 and he replaces them after the battle in the Pokemon Tower.
6. In 'Red/Green', an in-game trade involves a trainer on Route 18 wanting a Slowbro for a Lickitung. This same trainer in 'Yellow' wants a Tangela for what Pokemon?

Answer: Parasect

All in-game trades are different in 'Red' and 'Green', 'Blue' and 'Yellow'. In 'Pokemon Blue' (Japanese Version), the trainer on Route 18 wants a Persian for his Tauros. This version also has a trade involving a Rhydon for a Kangaskhan whereas in 'Yellow' you can trade a Kangaskhan for a Muk on Cinnabar Island.
7. Which of these Pokemon is not obtainable in 'Pokemon Yellow'?

Answer: Jynx

Jynx was available in the previous Generation 1 games as part of an in-game trade, but it cannot be obtained in 'Pokemon Yellow' unless you trade with someone who has it in 'Red/Blue/Green'.
8. Which of these Pokemon is obtainable in 'Pokemon Yellow'?

Answer: Pinsir

Koffing and Weedle can be found in previous games whereas Meowth can only be found in 'Green' and 'Blue'. Pinsir can be found in the Safari Zone or bought at the Celadon/Rocket Game Corner in 'Blue/Green' and 'Yellow'.
9. Does the Elite Four's (not the Champion's) team of Pokemon change between 'Red/Blue/Green' and 'Yellow'?

Answer: no

The team does not change between Generation 1. In Generation 3 ('FireRed/LeafGreen'), every Pokemon in the Elite Four is two levels lower and some of the Pokemon also change after completing the Sevii Islands.
10. Cerulean Cave (also known as the Unknown Dungeon) is redesigned in 'Pokemon Yellow' from 'Red/Green' and 'Blue'.

Answer: true

This is the second time that the Unknown Dungeon has been redesigned, as it was first redesigned for 'Pokemon Blue' (Japanese Version). This is the final Dungeon of the game and is where you can find Mewtwo at level 70.
