Answer: In a moving van

After the van stops, the only thing you can do is jump out. There are no secrets or anything to do the cramped space, so just exit and get some fresh air.

Answer: Route 101

Route 101 is the only route leading out of Littleroot Town, and it's north. It's a small route that leads to Oldale Town which acts as a three way junction. It has routes leading to Littleroot Town, Petalburg City, and to Route 110, which is between Slateport City and Mauville City.

Answer: Poochyena

Poochyena is a pure dark type Pokémon. It's superb against psychic Pokémon, which are probably the most powerful in the game, but not much else. Poochyena has decent stats, but is difficult to level up, and when it finally evolves, its states don't get much better. You're probably not wanting to go through the game with this one unless it's a few levels higher than normal, or else it's going to go down really fast in a fight.

In "Pokemon: Emerald", Prof. Birch will be attacked by a Zigzagoon instead.

Answer: North

103 takes you to Route 110, but you'll need a Pokémon that knows Surf, plus the Balance Badge to use it. For now, you can just explore the west end of the route where you can find May or Brandon (depending which gender your character is).

Answer: Your first rival battle

If you're a boy, you'll battle May, and if you're a girl, you'll battle Brandon. They'll have a starting Pokémon that will have a type advantage against yours, but it will only know normal attacks, and your rival hasn't had time to train it up too much, so it'll only be a level five weakling. You'll probably have had some training by now and should be able to clear this battle with relative ease.

Your rival (Brandon or May) will explain that he/she also has a Pokédex and is going to work really hard to fill it up for his/her father. The Pokédex catalogs every Pokémon that you once possessed. There's nothing special about the Pokéballs you get from your rival, but at this point in the game, five Pokéballs for free is a pretty good deal.

Running is a nice, quick alternative to walking. You can run for as long as you want without losing your breath and they don't take up a space in your back pack. You can not, however, run while indoors.

Answer: Gym Leader

You actually get to battle your dad later, but he says you're too weak now, and will not fight you. Once you have your first four badges, go back to him and he'll fight you for the balance badge.

Answer: Ralts

Ralts and its evolutions are all pure psychic, and are not difficult to catch, but fairly hard to find. Later in the game, even though it's a psychic, it's a lot like Poochyena and Mightyena. They're only effective if used against a Pokémon with a type disadvantage, or when they're a few levels above what would be normal.

Answer: Mr. Briney

You will eventually have to come back this way to continue your journey. Since you don't have Surf yet, Mr. Briney's boat is the only way to get to Dewford Town across the sea, and then on to Slateport City beyond that.
