Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Space Quest 5" was created by Sierra.

Answer: False

"Space Quest 5" was actually created by Dynamix. Although the game uses the Sierra logo, Dynamix created the game.
2. What does not exist in "Space Quest 5"?

Answer: Voice acting

Even though "Space Quest 4" had a voice pack, "Space Quest 5" does not. The voice pack returned in "Space Quest 6".
3. What does Roger do to pass the "StarCon Aptitude Test"?

Answer: cheat

"Space Quest" can really give people some bad ideas of how to get by in life considering how much Roger cheats. In "Space Quest 1," Roger uses a magnet to rig a slot machine and eventually destroys the machine without paying for the damages. In "Space Quest 2," Roger orders a whistle via mail and does not pay for it. Now, "Space Quest 5" makes you solve a puzzle by cheating on a test! Cheating will again be encouraged in "Space Quest 6," in which Roger cheats at an arcade game to win a 300-buckazoid bet.
4. What character, introduced at the end of "Space Quest 4," does Roger meet in "Space Quest 5?"

Answer: Beatrice

After defeating Vohaul and saving his son in "Space Quest 4," Roger meets his son, Roger Jr., who tells Roger everything about what was going on and how Roger got there to that time period. He also introduces Roger to his wife, Beatrice. Roger Jr. is not the answer to this question because he does not appear in "Space Quest 5." The other two weren't in "Space Quest 4".
5. At the Space Bar, what does Roger do to create a distraction, and ultimately blow up the place?

Answer: He mixes a bag of space monkeys with alcohol

At the Space Bar, Cliffy gets arrest for hitting someone. While Cliffy's punishment was justified, the Eureka can't continue without its chief engineer. So Roger bails him out. Before Roger bails out Cliffy, he must do something to distract the security personnel. So Roger uses a bag of space monkey on which the label says "Warning do not mix contents with alcohol" to distract the security guards so he can save Cliffy.
6. What ship does Roger become captain of?

Answer: Eureka

Captain Quirk makes Roger the Captain of the Eureka, a garbage scow. The Goliath is Captain Quirk's ship. The Aluminum Mallard in in "Space Quest 3" and the Arcada is in "Space Quest 1".
7. Aboard the Eureka, Roger makes several new friends. Which of these two friends can NOT kill him at any point in the game?

Answer: Flo and Droole

Although in theory Droole could shoot Roger to death with his weapon and his point-blank accuracy, and the game suggest that Flo may have killed the previous captain by forcing him out of the airlock, there is nothing Roger can do that will get either Flo or Droole to kill him.

Obviously WD40 will try to kill Roger when she first meets him because she worked for the "Gippazoid Novelty Company." Roger cheated that company by ordering a whistle via mail and not paying for it, so the Gippazoid company sends out 2 androids to kill him for it. It's not until Roger destroys WD40 and Cliffy rebuilds and reprograms her to be the Eureka's science officer that WD40 is good to Roger.

In the Genetix lab, when Roger gets turned into a fly, he needs Cliffy's help to get him back to his original form. However, first Roger must find a way to communicate with Flo that he was turned into a fly. If Roger does not communicate with Flo, then when he flies to close to Cliffy, Cliffy will zap him.

When Spike first gets on the Eureka, he will run around and urinate everywhere until Roger does something about it. Spike's urine is acidic, and burns holes in the ship. If Roger just sits at the bridge long enough and ignores Cliffy's warnings, Spike will do too much damage to the ship and everyone aboard the ship will die.

If Beatrice dies, she will kill Roger in the process by not giving birth to Roger Jr. If Roger Jr. doesn't exist, he won't be able to save Roger in "Space Quest 4", therefore the game presumes Roger died in "Space Quest 4" so he cannot continue with "Space Quest 5".
8. What crime in Roger's past causes a killer android to hunt him down and try to kill him (again)?

Answer: Not paying for the whistle in "Space Quest 2"

A killer android who happens to be the sister of Arnoid the Annihilator (the killer android in "Space Quest 3") hunts Roger down in an attempt to do what Arnoid couldn't do; kill Roger. Roger does not have to destroy the "Ms. Astro Chicken" game in "Space Quest 4". That game is completely optional.
9. When Roger meets the android, he tries to employ a technique he learned by cheating on the SAT. He drops a giant rock on the android. This knocks out the android's cloaking device, but it does not destroy the android. What "wrong" answer from the SAT does Roger use to destroy the android?

Answer: Stick a banana in its exhaust pipe

Maybe the flaw in the rock-dropping was that Roger did not shout "Hasta la Vista Baby!" like the test question told him to. Maybe the alien from whom Roger cheated got that answer wrong. Whatever the case, sticking the banana up the exhaust pipe is what destroys the android.
10. At the Space Bar, Captain Quirk challenges Roger to a game that's similar to what real life board game?

Answer: Battleship

Captain Quirk and Roger Wilco compete in a game called Battle Cruiser. It is just like battleship, only each player has four ships instead of five, the ships are different, and the player has 3 boards that he or she can put his ships on or guess. Also the player can use a probe, which reveals any ships within several squares of where the probe was dropped. Roger does not have to win this game, but the player gets points if he does.

It's not too hard because Captain Quirk is bad at this game.
11. On what planet did Captain Quirk and his crew dump the bad soup, mutating all of the inhabitants?

Answer: Klorox II

The Eureka gets ordered to go to Klorox II for an auxiliary garbage retrieval mission. When the Eureka arrives there, there is no waste beacon. It becomes clear that something is wrong. When Roger and Droole beam down on the planet, they see that it is completely deserted except for one mutant. The mutant tells Roger what happened, and then it is up to Roger to save the universe.
12. On Thrakus, Roger and Beatrice nearly get mutated. What must Roger do while he's hanging on for dear life to prevent this fate?

Answer: Contact the Eureka

This is an easy mistake to make, an easy thing to forget to do. If Roger does not contact the Eureka before climbing the vine that Beatrice throws, they will both get mutated. Roger must contact the Eureka so they can beam them up right before they'd get hit by the pukoid guns. Throwing the jacket to Eureka does not prevent the mutations, it just helps Beatrice climb up. Actually, Beatrice gets hit by a pukoid gun anyway, but Roger can save her once they get on the Eureka.
13. At Genetix, Roger gets turned into what insect?

Answer: Fly

When he beams down on Genetix, Roger's DNA gets mixed with a fly's DNA. This creates a fly with Roger's head, and a creature with Roger's body and a fly's head. This is a parody of a movie called "The Fly."
14. Who leaves the ship via the airlock and floats away, forcing Roger to use the EVA pad to rescue him or her?

Answer: Cliffy

Cliffy leaves the ship to make some minor adjustments to the ship. Then something goes wrong and he floats away. Roger gets in the EVA pad and saves him.
15. In an ironic twist, who gets mutated?

Answer: Captain Quirk

Captain Quirk was the one who dumped the bad soup on Klorox II, ignoring Beatrice's warning of the consequences. He's the one who causes the mutations to begin with, so it's ironic that he gets mutated.
16. What uninhabitable planet must the Eureka go to?

Answer: Gingivitis

If Roger beams down on any of these planets, he will die. However, Gingivitis is where the Goliath is at the end of the game, so the Eureka must travel there.
17. Aboard the Goliath, how does Roger avoid the mutants?

Answer: He hides in the grates under the floor

If Roger attempts to travel the hallways above the floor, then no matter what direction he goes, he will get mutated. He has to travel an underground maze to avoid the mutants. He does sneak like the thief hero in "Quest For Glory", but that does not prevent the mutants from seeing him.
18. Do Roger and his crew save all the mutants?

Answer: No

They do save most of the mutants via the transporter, beaming the mutant material to outer space and creating a giant evil puke blob. However, one mutant escapes: Captain Quirk. Before the crew can save him, Captain Quirk leaves the Goliath via the escape pod and flies right into the blob.

They also did not save the first mutant they met on Klorox II. Droole had to kill him or he would have mutated Roger.
19. When the blob attacks, there are many things Roger must do. First he must get Flo to beam him back to the Eureka. Then, he must get Droole to fire a weapon at the blob. Then, once the blob attacks the Eureka, he must get Droole to activate the Refuse Removal System to capture the blob. This works, but then the Eureka can't handle the blob for much longer. He tells Droole and Flo to abandon ship. Then, what must he do to destroy the blob?

Answer: Push the self-destruct button

If Roger immediately beams over to the Goliath, the blob will attack the Goliath as soon as it destroys the Eureka and everyone will die. Roger does have to replace a busted fuse and save Beatrice and Spike, but these steps aren't for the purpose of destroying the blob.
20. What telephone company sponsored this game?

Answer: Sprint

The Sprint logo is used many times throughout the game. The closing credits give out a special thanks to Sprint.
