Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Well, there were supposed to be a bunch of little, old, silver keys to help you search around this place (sorry, they're missing). Who would've likely taken them?

Answer: Chris

Old Keys are few and far between, but they're extremely important. Used to ramp up the difficulty in Chris' campaign, these keys are used to open doors otherwise unlockable with the lockpick. There are only five of these keys throughout the game and all five are found within the mansion itself. Fortunately, they're not the most important keys in the game. Aside from Old Keys, there are four other keys in the mansion used by both Chris and Jill and they're used repeatedly. Once these keys are used on as many doors as they can unlock, they are discarded and don't take up space in your inventory.
2. I hope you don't become ill over the course of your work. If you happen to find yourself poisoned (re: bit) by some of the local pests, you may be poisoned. In the Drug Room, you can use what to cure your poison condition?

Answer: Serum

Serum is found on the large shelf next to the item box in the Mansion Drug Room in the west wing of the building. This room will be one of only a couple of safe havens in the game-- no monsters can reach you inside and you can save/maintain your inventory there. Serum is only necessary if you happen to fall victim to poison (which can happen-- the snakes in this place are HUGE). If you can't come across a vial of this important antidote, there are also Blue Herbs found in the area which are said to have the same effect.

The Drug Room is also the place where Chris can spend time with Rebecca Chambers; she'll hang around here (what with her medical background and all) until you need to head out.
3. Where in the mansion should you expect to find the Blue Gemstone?

Answer: Inside a statue

The Blue Gemstone is one of the easiest items in the game to obtain-- you can get it simply by heading onto the second floor balcony of the Dining Room and pushing a statue off the edge so that it breaks on the floor below. Should Chris or Jill do this in their campaign, it will be up to them to carry it around or stow it away-- it isn't needed until much later on. You won't find the Red and Yellow Gemstones until later either; you need to get the Armor Key to find them. All three go into the eyes of a tiger statue in the mansion.
4. Our inventory list seems to include a map of the mansion's second floor. We never seemed to hunt it down. On what would we expect it to be transcribed?

Answer: Wooden Mount

The Wooden Mount is found in the long, narrow hallway on the second floor of the mansion; it's on a desk next to the door to the East Stairwell. Although it seems to have very little use as a practical item as a simple wood plank, it ends up becoming useful when you find a room containing a fireplace just off the East Stairs. Above the fireplace is a metal picture which, when you light the fire, can burn the map of the upper floor into the mount.

This will no longer take up precious space in your inventory.

The map of the first floor is in handy-dandy map form; no need for puzzles.
5. In one of the living rooms, you'll find an unguarded (but loaded) weapon hanging on the wall-- all yours for the inventory. If someone else has already claimed it, you'll probably find which of these in its spot?

Answer: Broken Shotgun

The Shotgun room is on the main floor of the mansion near the East Stairs and it proves to be one of the house's most nefarious booby traps. If anyone were to take the Shotgun off the wall it would trigger a trap in the adjacent room, a small compartment in which the ceiling will drop down, squishing any occupants.

The only way to avoid getting flattened is by replacing the Shotgun with an item of equal weight. This is where the Broken Shotgun comes in; if someone else hasn't already picked it up (perhaps to improperly use on a zombie or other creature) it would be in a utility room. Don't double-count it!
6. The residents of the mansion were clearly planning on doing some garden work; where would you expect to find the Herbicide?

Answer: Outside, on the Patio

A burlap sack full of chemical Herbicide can be found on the eastern edge of the first floor but to get it you'll need to walk along a path on the side of the mansion that brings you mighty close to some infected dogs. Don't worry-- there's only one bag of Herbicide out there by last count.

It's out in the wheelbarrow. If it's not there, maybe someone already made use of it. You need to bring the Herbicide over to the west end of the house, specifically the Conservatory, to mix with the room's water supply and kill a T-Virus-infected plant. Once it's tossed into the water it isn't seen again. You need it to get one of four Death Masks.
7. You're likely to find bits and pieces of a Musical Score in the mansion. What song do they play on the piano?

Answer: Moonlight Sonata

In the Servants' Dining Room high up in the mansion you'll find half of a Musical Score hiding behind some shelves; in the Piano Room you'll find another half. When you combine the two you'll end up with the full Musical Score which you can use on the piano as Jill (or, if you're Chris, you can let Rebecca use it).

When a bit of the "Moonlight Sonata" plays, it'll open a hatch in the wall which will lead to the Gold Emblem-- it needs to be switched for the Wooden Emblem over the fireplace. If you happen to take the item, however, the door to the hatch will close until something rests on the switch.
8. Which of these items are you not likely to find in the Researcher's Study?

Answer: Stone and Metal Object

Although you may need to complete a little puzzle with these items in the Researcher's Study, your stocktaking would be useless without it. Combine the lure and hook and swap it with the bee specimen on the wall to unveil a Wind Crest (which is later used to get the Sun, Moon, and Star Crests and, subsequently, a Magnum). Oh, and watch out for the live bee.
The Stone and Metal Object is needed to open the gate leading out behind the mansion. Apparently there's a cabin or two back there. You may consider taking a walk.
9. How many MO Disks should you be able to find in the mansion proper?

Answer: One

Although there are three MO Disks, your stocktaking in the mansion should only uncover one; it's given to you when you put the Yellow Gemstone into the Tiger Statue in the west wing of the building. The MO Disks are late-stage items in the game. When Chris and Jill head down into the laboratories beneath the Spencer Mansion, they'll have to use the three MO Disks in specific readers to reach a captured S.T.A.R.S. agent (Rebecca for Chris and Barry for Jill).

This leads to the final act of the game.
10. How many large kerosene tanks can be found in the mansion?

Answer: Three

If there's one thing you need to make sure of it's that you need to make sure you carry fire and lots of it. In this game, zombies can return from the erm...undead. If you defeat a zombie it can still return as an angrier specimen known as a Crimson Head which has sharper claws and runs really fast.

The only way to avoid fighting these a second time is by either decapitating the original zombie (virtually luck), using specific grenade launcher rounds as Jill, or setting them on fire when they're dead.

This can be done if your character has some kerosene and a lighter. If your Fuel Canteen runs out of fluid, you can refill it at a tank in the East Save Room, one of the upper-floor balconies, or in a room adjacent to the Drug Room in the west wing. Watch out though-- overuse it and it'll run out!
