Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the person who created the original "Tetris"?

Answer: Alexey Pazhitnov

Alexey Pazhitnov has been credited on games developed by companies such as Tengen, Electronorgtechnica, Blitz Games, and AcademySoft. He has also been credited on games such as "Project Gotham Racing 2" (2003), "Microsoft Game Studios Fuzion Frenzy" (2001), "Microsoft Game Studios Rampage Puzzle Attack" (2001), and "Midway Games Tetris Worlds" (2001).
2. How many shapes are used in the game?

Answer: Seven

Each shape is made up of four little blocks. They include the two "N" shaped ones, the two "L" shaped ones, the square, the line, and the one with three blocks in a row with one block attached to the middle of the three blocks.
3. When playing, what is shown on the left side of the screen?

Answer: Statistics

On the left side of the playing screen, it shows the statistics and a picture of each shape. The statistics show the number of times that each block has fallen so far during the game.
4. How many points do you need to complete a Type-B game?

Answer: Twenty five

You can also select the height along with the level to make it more challenging. What makes B-Type different than A-Type, is that the level of the game does not change during play.
5. Does the select button do anything during play?

Answer: Yes

By pressing the select button while playing, you can delete the NEXT display. You can restore it by pressing it again. This makes the game much more challenging.
6. It is possible to start a Type-A game on level 17.

Answer: True

You can hold the A button down while pressing start on the selected level to start a game with 10+ the selected level. For example, if you hold down A when the cursor is on the number seven, and press start, the game will start on level 17 instead.
7. The word Tetris comes from Tetra. What does Tetra mean?

Answer: Four

The reason for naming the game "Four" is that four squares are rearranged to create seven different shapes. Also, a tetris is when four lines are cleared.
8. How many points do you get for a Tetris at level zero?

Answer: 1200

At level zero, you get 40 points for a single, 100 points for a double, 300 points for a triple, and 1200 for a Tetris. The formula for calculating the score after you have cleared 25 lines in B-Type games is the Clear Score + Level no. x 1000 + Height x 1000.
9. Which of the following names is not included in the game for default high scores?

Answer: Dewey

There are six names that already have set high scores in "Tetris". They are Otason, Howard, Ninten, Lance, Alex, and Tony. When a player gets a new high score, they can replace it with one of these but the score and new name will be erased when the game is shut off.
10. The B button rotates a block ninety degrees clockwise.

Answer: False

The B button rotates a block counter-clockwise and the A button rotates clockwise. Every button on the standard NES controller is used for something!
