Don't be so sure about that strnog, it took this long for Deep Purple to get nominated who knows if they'll ever get in. Such a shame that one of the most important and influential hard rock bands got snubbed yet again. They should of been first ballot entries the first year they were eligible. Congrats to Rush on getting in can't believe that happened. Reply #101. Dec 11 12, 10:34 PM |

The induction of Rush should pave the way for groups with a "harder" sound so I think it's fairly likely that Deep Purple will be nominated, then inducted next year. There are a number of artists that the nominating committee and eligible voters love. You can see who they are by reading any Rolling Stone magazines list of Top 100 artists of Whatever and these are the artists who are more likely to be voted in as Rolling Stone editors have a very heavy influence in the voting. As such, Nirvana, who will be eligible for the first time next year are about the surest thing left in the music business for a first-year eligibility induction. You'll have to wait until 2021 for the next most likely first year inductee, Eminem. Deep Purple are not actively disliked by Rolling Stone editors the way, say, Kiss or Chicago or ELO are. So I really expect them and Nirvana to be in next year. Reply #102. Dec 12 12, 8:23 PM |

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a joke! Why call it that when you have Rap, Pop, Disco, etc., in there? Deserving acts are excluded. A joke. Reply #103. Jan 24 13, 7:30 PM |

Good question about other genres being in the Rock Hall. I suppose it's economics. The Rock Hall is, after all, a business, and one worth visiting, with a killer record store above the Rock Hall and all of the rock paraphenalia in its Cleveland location by Lake Erie. I would guess those investing in the Rock Hall don't want to limit those deciding to visit it, if they're more interested in NWA than CCR. Probably a better name for it would be the Popular Music Hall of Fame, but it doesn't have the same ring. Reply #104. Jan 25 13, 3:55 PM |

Have to wonder whether the phenomenal success, both critically and commercially, of the latest Daft Punk album will lead to not one but TWO artists entering the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year. Those would be Chic and Kraftwerk, both former nominees that have not made it past the short list. Kraftwerk has had two previous long list nominations and Chic seven, the most of anybody not in. I always wondered why Yes and The Moody Blues were never inducted into the Hall of Fame, very good musicians. Reply #107. May 29 13, 8:25 PM |

I wish the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was as demanding to be enshrined in as is the Baseball Hall of Fame. Reply #108. May 30 13, 9:51 AM |

did anyone else watch the induction ceremony on HBO? It was pretty good. Rush was awesome (but everyone was, really). It was pretty cool to see Albert King inducted too. Reply #109. May 30 13, 4:14 PM |

A little late this year, but the long-list nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced tonight: The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Chic Deep Purple Peter Gabriel Hall and Oates Kiss LL Cool J The Meters Nirvana NWA The Replacements Linda Ronstadt Cat Stevens Link Wray Yes The Zombies Not too keen on this list myself, especially with the omission of Kraftwerk, who I thought would actually be nominated and inducted this year. Using the criteria for influence it would be hard to top Kraftwerk for influence on the whole genre of electronic music. Who I would pick, from these nominees: Deep Purple (who I think will finally make it this year)- one of the biggest omissions ever), Peter Gabriel, Nirvana, Cat Stevens and Yes. Who I predict will be inducted: Deep Purple, Chic (propelled by Nile Rogers' part in the Daft Punk project), KISS (who will get in due to a fan ballot being included in the tabulations) Nirvana, and NWA. Deep Purple needs to be in already. Once they are in, it is time to have the metal scene dominate the next year's show. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer, and Motorhead all at the same time. Reply #112. Oct 15 13, 11:28 PM |

The five that should go in given the choices are in this order Deep Purple, Yes, Nirvana, Kiss, and Linda Ronstadt. Sadly I only think Nirvana will actually get in. I'm with Anton and Aussie on more metal acts getting in but I think the three of us are dreaming for that to come any time soon. Is this the first time Yes is nominated? Another crying shame in the world of prog rock and metal two genres that are heavily snubbed by the hall. Reply #115. Oct 16 13, 8:57 PM |

My 5, Deep Purple, Yes, Cat Stevens, LL Cool J and Kiss. I don't think they will ever make it, but I am glad to see The Replacements were recognized with a nomination. Reply #116. Oct 17 13, 4:40 AM |

And the inductees are: Peter Gabriel, KISS, Hall and Oates, Nirvana, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt. Boy, I didn't do very well this year with predictions! Frankly quite surprised at this list this year. Seems that the Rock Hall went commercial, with IMO, some more deserving artists passed by or not nominated at all. And still no Deep Purple? I find it hard to believe anyone would find Linda Ronstadt or Cat Stevens, both artist whom I like, are more influential than Deep Purple or say, Kraftwerk. Can we expect Toto, Chicago and Mister Mister next year? Reply #117. Dec 17 13, 2:29 PM |

Well, no Toto or Mister Mister this year. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees were released today and are: Green Day Nine Inch Nails NWA Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Lou Reed The Smiths The Spinners Sting Chic Kraftwerk The Marvelettes Bill Withers War Stevie Ray Vaughan The Paul Butterfield Blues Band A not so surprising list, with only 6 of the 15 artists being nominated for the first time. The actual selectees from this long list are usually announced in December. I'll have to think for a while who I think will make it from this list before putting forth my predictions. Happy to see Kraftwerk on the list, but in general not so crazy about this list, given some IMHO more influential artists who are long overdue being left off the list: Deep Purple, Yes, Roxy Music come to mind here. And I was secretly hoping for a Kate Bush nomination. Although Kate has had limited commerical success in the USA, she's my personal favorite artist and I think hugely respected by many. I traveled all the way from Alaska to London to see her perform live recently. It was worth it. Reply #118. Oct 09 14, 11:55 AM |

It's nice to see a couple blues artists on the list, Stevie Ray and Paul Butterfield. Stevie Ray SHOULD make it, but probably not Butterfield. He's just not that well known among the average music listener. He and his band should be in the Hall mainly because they were one of the first, if not THE first band to have both white and black members. This was in the mid-1960's, quite an accomplishment for the time. Reply #119. Oct 09 14, 3:28 PM |
