I could see Kraftwerk in the Hall because of their huge influence on electronic and techno music. You're right about NWA and Chic. WTF?!?! Reply #121. Oct 09 14, 9:27 PM |

NWA had a huge influence in music...and it's clear the Hall is putting in hip-hop/rap and considering them Rock and Roll (Public Enemy last year). Because they are putting those groups in, NWA is a no brainer. Reply #122. Oct 09 14, 10:17 PM |

Or Cheap Trick or King Crimson or Emerson Lake and Palmer or Judas Priest or Ronnie James Dio or Iron Maiden or Slayer.... The list goes on and on. I actually wouldn't have an issue with the hall if they reformatted it as the Music Hall of Fame and categorized it in various genres that way we wouldn't have this argument about what constitutes "rock and roll". Given the nominees I would pick Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Nine Inch Nails The Smiths Stevie Ray Vaughan The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Who I think the hall will pick are Lou Reed Sting NWA Kraftwerk Green Day Reply #126. I would have a huge problem with Green Day getting in so soon. It took Sabbath years to get in and they inspired an entire genre. Punk was around for decades before Green Day showed up and I would argue that The Offspring did more for pop punk than they did. Reply #127. Oct 11 14, 10:01 AM |

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke. They put too many groups or solo artists in every year. It needs to be like the Baseball Hall of Fame. Very stringent. Pretty soon, every band will be there. I'm surprised that Lou Reed isn't in already. Reply #129. Oct 16 14, 11:23 AM |

It's the "Emmy's". Just in Cleveland. And just as trashy anymore. Reply #130. Oct 16 14, 11:26 AM |

I don't think it's the number of inductees getting in as the problem rather than who they are putting in. Boxjaw you really want it to be like the baseball hall? No one would get in because everyone would fail the drug test :) I totally agree with the hall's relevance being on par with the Grammys/Emmys/[Insert award show here}. Reply #131. Drugs in MLB is a blip on the radar as far as inductees. MLB is still the hardest HOF to get into. Always has been. Rock and Roll HOF on the other hand has been cheapened. Reply #132. Oct 17 14, 12:36 PM |

At least there is a museum for the Rock music of our time, whether it's in Cleveland or wherever. Granted, we are all disappointed that many of the "masters" haven't been noted and inducted yet, but, there's always hope. I have been very disappointed over the years for their lack of quality, such as "Moody Blues" and "Yes". With that, I do hope "Rush" has made the list! Not sure. Hope Joan Jett makes it this year, we are the same age, I would like to see her get recognized after all these years. Reply #133. Oct 26 14, 9:20 PM |

Have to apologize for the language, I didn't think at a ceremony they would use the "bad language", but they did. Moderators, remove if you think necessary. Sorry. :( Reply #135. Oct 26 14, 9:43 PM |

"Wishbone Ash" is another forgotten band from the 70s, 4 man band with such albums as "New England", is in my collection. I was a DJ for a local rock station in the 80s. :-) Reply #136. Oct 26 14, 10:04 PM |

The problem that I have with this whole thing is there are so many people/acts included that I've never heard of. Is this a Hall of Fame or a Hall of Obscure People Music Fanatics Really Like? Reply #137. Dec 07 14, 2:42 AM |

The actual inductees for the 2014 class were announced today. They are: Green Day Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Lou Reed the Paul Butterfield Blues Band Stevie Ray Vaughan Bill Withers. Fairly disappointed with this group, which only included one of the "long list" that I would have picked, although 4 of the 6 that I predicted the Rock Hall would pick. Reply #138. I would agree with your comment about Green Day. To be eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, your first recording had to be released 25 or more years ago. Green Day is one of the few artists that made it in on their first year of eligibility. The selection process for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is heavily influenced by the editorship of Rolling Stone magazine, i.e. Jann Wenner and his posse, and so it's not particularly difficult to predict who is going to make it based upon whatever artists Rolling Stone magazine deems as having merit. Rolling Stone magazine weighs heavily in favor of West Coast or New York American artists and against English artists. So no Deep Purple, no Yes, no Moody Blues as of yet. Instead, Green Day, a California based band, and one whom the Rolling Stone editors likely think will make good press by likely performing at the induction ceremony intact. Reply #140.
