I do like some of the artists on this years list but overall it hardly a great list. Joe Tex? Chic? Really? Reply #61. Sep 29 10, 11:02 AM |

Once again, the only importance this self-proclaimed 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame' has is the one you accord it. I would have guessed Deep Purple was in, they're not, well, ain't that a shame... Reply #63. Sep 29 10, 1:26 PM |

They aren't American, that's why. Without looking at a list of members, I would imagine Iron Maiden aren't there either. Reply #64. Sep 29 10, 3:08 PM |

No doubt there is a definite American (and even West Coast) bias to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The selection committee centers around Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner. It's also my understanding that artists who have been inducted get a vote. Since there's already an America/West Coast bias, allowing inductees (who have a greater likelihood of being West Coast in either origin or popularity) further accentuates the bias. Art and the merit of art is entirely a subjective matter and there's no perfect way of selecting artists based on a system of merit. I applaud there being a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame foundation. Even though I oftentimes don't agree with who is chosen to be inducted, it makes an interesting discussion. Reply #65. Sep 29 10, 5:26 PM |

Schoonie, I don't know how I could have missed your link to the Cleveland tourism video. Pure magic. Still no support for Laura Nyro? Just me? Reply #66. Sep 29 10, 5:49 PM |

Maybe it's because I'm knocking on a bit, or Rock and Roll has a different meaning now to what it had back in the fifties and sixties, but I wouldn't describe the music of most of the nominees as Rock and Roll. Reply #67. Sep 29 10, 10:18 PM |

I'm with you Lesley with Laura Nyro. she was a great songwriter. On the video link.. Cleveland isn't quite that bad! Detroit is mentioned and yes it is that bad. I've been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and it is worth the visit though I got to say it is an odd building. They built it along Lake Erie and there doesn't seem to be much room to expand. it also shares a parking lot with a drydocked navy ship. Go figure. Reply #68. Sep 30 10, 1:00 PM |

It's been long overdo for Kiss, wether you're a fan or not. They were never a "critic's darling", so no surprise it took that long! Reply #69. Oct 01 10, 7:25 PM |

Ooh an ally on Laura Nyro! O joy! She was definitely a brilliant songwriter. She was a better singer than I used to think. A bit odd, but really no odder than Joni Mitchell... or Joan Baez or Leonard Cohen. Reply #70. Oct 01 10, 7:52 PM |

I was playing Deep Purple's Highway Star and the thought came to mind it's pretty much impossible to drive down the road playing it and follow the speed limit. Classic rock indeed! Reply #73. Oct 05 10, 11:30 AM |

Did I miss the tv special of this year's Hall of Fame concert? I think it used to be on VH1. Did anyone see it? I think The Moody Blues should have been inducted years ago. And when will they honor Neil Finn's contributions to music or did I miss that too? :) Reply #77. Oct 10 10, 10:03 PM |

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees were announced today from the list of nominees: They are: Alice Cooper Neil Diamond Dr. John Darlene Love Tom Waits I didn't do as well this year as last year, in that I only picked two of the five. Still, Alice Cooper was a glaring omission for the Rock Hall so I'll take solace in Alice making it finally. Reply #78. Dec 15 10, 12:52 PM |

The long list of Nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were released last week. They are: The Cure Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Heart Freddie King The Small Faces/The Faces The Spinners Beastie Boys Donovan Laura Nyro Red Hot Chili Peppers War Eric B. & Rakim Guns 'n' Roses Rufus with Chaka Khan Donna Summer Five inductees from this list should be announced in March 2012. I'll have to contemmplate this list somewhat, as the only one of the nominees that would have been in my dream list of 5 potential inductees is Donna Summer. Randy Newman, Roxy Music, Kraftwerk, New Order, where are you? And Anton, still no Deep Purple (sigh) Reply #79. Oct 02 11, 7:18 AM |
