The nominees for the 2010 R&R HOF class were announced earlier. They are (in no particular order):

KISS
ABBA
Donna Summer
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Genesis
the Stooges
LL Cool J
Jimmy Cliff
the Hollies
Darlene Love
the Chantels
Laura Nyro

The induction ceremony will take place March 15 in New York City, only five of the 12 will be inducted (announced in December). Tough task, but interested in hearing your five nominees.....

I'm going w/ KISS (overdue, like it or not), Genesis, LL, the Stooges, and even though I abhor disco, Donna Summer. Hard to exclude the Hollies and Jimmy Cliff though. Not too familiar w/ Laura Nyro, the Chantels, or Darlene Love. Thoughts?

I thought Guns n Roses was nominated this year. They and the Chili Peppers would be my choices.

Well this years nominees look a little better then last year. Of these Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and Guns N'Roses should go in. I'd be interested to see which members of Guns would go to the induction ceremony if they get in. Axl is the only original member still in the band.

So this year's inductees are:

Red Hot Chili Peppers
Donovan
Guns 'n' Roses
Laura Nyro
the Beastie Boys
Faces/Small Faces

I would have gotten only two of the inductees (of the nominees) right (Donovan and the Beastie Boys). Just the same, the powers-to-be behind the Rock Hall were almost certainly going to put Guns 'n' Roses and the RHCP in, so it's just as well they're in now, making room for some different nominees.

Please to see Laura Nyro in - about time too - and the Faces before we forget how good they were.

I had an I-tunes party last night for the Rock inductees, playing as least one song from each of the inductees. The instrumentation and vocals on the Faces "Stay With Me" is terrific.

Agreed. Another one of my all-time favorites. They seemed very adept at the little touches that fit so perfectly. Little touches that just had to be there.

Just released the 2013 long list for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:

Heart
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Albert King
Kraftwerk
The Marvelettes
The Meters
Randy Newman
NWA
Procul Harum
Public Enemy

I'll be happy if they actually get in.

Deep Purple, Rush, and Heart. These three should be in. Maybe NWA since they changed the rap game.

There's a few that deserve it even though I'm not a big fan like Rush, Deep Purple and Heart. I hope Randy Newman makes it. Procol Harum? Aw c'mon.

I'm not sure how NWA and Public Enemy really fit into the "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame, as even the Beastie Boys last year were a stretch but closer to RnR than those two (and I love hip hop music).

That said, there are some good candidates this year. I can't see Rush not getting in. Donna Summer deserves it, she basically WAS disco. She'll probably get in now, because it's to late for her to enjoy it, unfortunately.

Deep Purple
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Randy Newman
Rush
Donna Summer

Considering their past rejection, i wouldn't be surprised to hear if 'Rush' refuse to accept their induction if they do get in, after all certain band members have referred to the HOF as a joke.
Has anyone ever turned down being inducted?

I'm glad to see Rush, Heart, Deep Purple, Randy Newman and Donna Summer on this list. In my opinion, this is a much stronger list than the past few years.

Wow Deep Purple and Rush are actually nominated? Did they get new voters for the hall I never thought that was going to happen. I'd love to see both of these bands get inducted and refuse the nomination, that will show them for snubbing them for far far far too long. By the way George I know of two acts that refused to enter the hall as well. When the Sex Pistols were inducted in 2006 the remaining members who were alive refused to be inducted and even wrote an angry letter about it. Just recently when Guns N' Roses were inducted, Axl Rose refused to accept the nomination and did not show up to the induction ceremony. He was upset that the hall only recognized the "Appetite for Destruction" lineup for hall consideration. Rose wanted to get all of the credit and was upset that former members, the same members that made Guns N' Roses as popular as they ever were going to be, were getting into the hall. The Sex Pistols were making a statement while Rose was just being childish and wanted all of the glory. The truth of the matter is that Axl Rose would not have been as successful without Slash and the other original members and they would not have been as successful without Rose. It's amazing how huge some egos can get in rock bands.

Axl Rose is a little punk. I wonder how many times he slammed the mic down at a show and said ...I'm outta here...bleep bleep..He didn't deserve it anyway. They should induct the other members without him.

I'm with you who think Rush is long overdue. What a wager they made as a band to come up with something like this in 1976:

We jammed to this back in high school. !^)

Turns we can actually vote for the 5 indtuctees on the hall's website, the totals will add up as one fan vote in the process. I voted for Deep Purple, Rush, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and Albert King. So far my picks are leading the polls but I wonder how much of an impact the fan vote will have or if it's just a gimmick to make it feel like we have some say in this process when in reality it doesn't matter. Either way I voted so I can complain next year about who didn't get in again :).

What does it take to get a nomination for this? Chic, The Meters? Never heard of them on these shores. The majority of the rest are little more than one hit wonders. The only stand-out in my eyes is Deep Purple (particularly Mk. II) and that's because they deserve it; they were at the forefront of the creation of metal and wrote one of the most recognisable riffs ever. I only hope it's NOT a sympathy vote following the passing of Jon Lord; a man who proved that it's not the size of your organ that matters, but what you do with it.

From what I understand the only actual requirement to get in is to have your first album be out for at least 25 years and that the performer or group has had an impact on rock music, they've been extremely lenient on the second rule. I'm afraid you might be right about the nomination for Purple being a sympathy vote because of the passing of the amazing Jon Lord.

So, the 2013 inductees have been named from the long list and they are:

Rush
Public Enemy
Heart
Randy Newman (yay!)
Donna Summer
Albert King

So, 3 of my top 5 personal picks from the list of 15 made it, and 4 of 5 of my predictions of who would actually make it in did so. Oddly enough, the one artist I considered a shoo-in, Deep Purple, didn't. Next year for sure.
