lol Yes Leslie apparently they do. I must confess I missed your post above. I liked the fact the Mann-Weil and Barry-Greenwich are in. They wrote some of the classic tracks of the '60s. Ellie Greenwich recently passed away from a heart attack. Reply #41. Dec 28 09, 11:36 AM |

That's OK - I missed strnog's. Happens to the best of us. I'm nice and shallow, so I tend not to take much notice of songwriters, unless they're performers too, like Billy Joel, and then I'd think of them as performers who write their own material: or giants, like Bacharach and David. So who is Cynthia Weil? [googles...] Only a co-writer of You've Lost That Loving Feeling! And Ellie Greenwich belongs firmly with the giants. Brilliant. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/aug/27/ellie-greenwich-obituary Reply #42. Dec 28 09, 2:34 PM |

How is KISS not already in the hall? Not as bad as the Country Music Hall of fame, they're insane as to how few people they let in. Reply #43. Dec 28 09, 2:38 PM |

Never really understood why rap artists can be elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame... Reply #44. Jan 01 10, 7:37 PM |

The final choices were awful. ABBA and the Hollies are in and Linda Ronstadt and Heart continue to be snubbed. The Rock and Roll HOF has no credibilty at all. Rolling Stone's Jann Wenner controls who gets voted in and it is on record he has a vendetta against Ronstadt. Reply #45. Jan 02 10, 1:53 PM |

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke, if you ask me. How on earth can you put Kiss is the hall if the original shock rocker Alice Cooper isn't there? Kiss can go into the merchandising Hall of Fame, but where is the respect for the original shock rocker? For heaven's sake RunDMC is there and they are not Rock and Roll...what gives? ABBA, Madonna? Agreed that this so-called Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke. We shouldn't accord it much importance. As for Kiss being in, and Alice Cooper not, if that's the case I'm learning something here, again it's a joke. There wouldn't have been a Kiss without Alice Cooper. I can still listen and enjoy Alice Cooper's music today. I can't say the same about Kiss. Reply #49. Mar 16 10, 10:56 PM |

The whole thing is a joke, just a way to get people to visit Cleveland and buy things. I mean really, Cleveland? Reply #50. Mar 28 10, 8:01 AM |

Maybe they should lose the title "Rock and Roll" and call it the Popular Music Hall of Fame, as there is no justification for including ABBA or Jimmy Cliff (fine artist though he may be) in any pantheon with the words "Rock and Roll" in the title. Is this just the big labels using the publicity to clear their back catalogues of the works of artists that are well past their sell-by dates? Reply #53. Mar 29 10, 12:00 PM |

LOL! Mike! But I don't think ABBA,like them or not, need any help from the RnR HoF to sell the odd CD here and there! Reply #54. Mar 29 10, 12:20 PM |

I meant no disrespect to Cleveland or the people of thar city, but Philly or Memphis is the home of Rock and Roll Reply #55. Mar 31 10, 7:11 AM |

Well I certainly think the case for Memphis would trump Philly by a few years but consider that disc jockey Alan Freed is credited with coining the phrase Rock and Roll on the Cleveland airwaves in the early '50s and the genrally accepted fact that the first rock and roll concert took place March 21, 1952 in Cleveland is hard to ignore. I've also read that rock and roll was born in 1936 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Here's one of the two records that are claimed to be the first two rock and roll songs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pegm79r1zE Reply #56. Mar 31 10, 8:48 AM |

The 2011 nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are in: The J. Geils Band The Beastie Boys Bon Jovi Chic Alice Cooper Neil Diamond Donovan LL Cool J Darlene Love Laura Nyro Donna Summer Joe Tex Tom Wait Chuck Willis No comment, as I would have to delete my own reply and issue myself a warning. :) Okay, one comment... Where is Kiss? You do not have to be a fan to recognise the tremendous impact the group has had on rock music. Reply #57. Sep 28 10, 4:05 PM |

Cydonia, Whereas I agree with you (I think) about this being a particularly weak group of nominees, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on Kiss. I actually AM a fan of Kiss, but my opinion is that they're just not very good musicians, more champions of three-chord music and skillful marketing. If the intent is that the Rock Hall is supposed to be for innovative and influential musicianship, I'd have to leave Kiss out perpetually. But I loves me some "Detroit Rock City". Who do I think are bands/acts not nominated who are deserving: Kraftwerk, Roxy Music, Randy Newman, New Order and with a tip of the hat to Anton, Deep Purple. Reply #58. Sep 28 10, 4:26 PM |
