Subject: Who's Your Favorite Actor/Actress & Why?

My favorite actor is Sidney Poitier. I have read his biography "Measure of a Man," which tells of his family's arrival in Florida and how he tried to obtain acting roles, but was told that he needed to learn how to speak first. Poitier is probably best remembered for portraying Mark Thackerary in "To Sir, With Love." Everytime this movie is on I watch it. Sidney is mesmerizing as Thackerary and how he teaches his students, even though they make his life hell on wheels, and how he finally wins their approval and friendship. It also shows how he teaches them to love their selves and to respect each other and how anything and everything in life can be yours if you try and want it bad enough.

My favourite actor is the wonderful Nicolas Cage. The reason I like him so much is his ability to play all different types of diverse characters and make you believe he is that character. John Wayne, because the parts he played were principled and manly. He always showed a rough exterior, but inside you knew he had a heart of gold. I also like James Stewart, for basically the same reasons, though often he could play the tender man as well. Katherin Hepburn is one of my favorite actresses, or I should say, was, and I like her because she always had a "can-do" attitude about the characters she played. Very confident. Reply #145.
