A false front to a green is a part of the green that is sloped down off of the putting surface so any ball that stops there will soon roll right off of the front. So while it looks like a part of the green it is not a usable area to land an approach shot. The first link shows several visual examples of false fronts. As you can see the main green surface is higher than the area in front of the green.
