England's Dave Whitcombe was a cool character and looked set to stay among darts top players.
But devastating defeats in finals at the hands of the Crafty Cockney - 7-1 in 1984 and 6-0 two years later - saw the end of Whitcombe in the international scene.
(Above - From the BBC - sport - where are they now ?)

He did publish a book 'How to Play Winning Darts' by David Whitcombe, 1981, Hardback, English. ISBN # 0600346587
John Lowe visited Russia 3 times to promote UNICORN dart products, Dave Whitcombe went with him on his second visit in 1993

His last 3 appearances in the Embassy World Championships were 1990 and 1992 (lost 1st round both occasions) and 1991 where he lost in the quarter finals to Eric Bristow.
