I think it was 'The Shakespeare Secret' but I'm not really sure how long the book was. It was a few years ago when I read it lol :) Reply #242. Aug 21 09, 4:44 AM |

This is easy if you count The Story Of Civilization as one book. I spent way too much time one summer in college with the Durants. Reply #244. Aug 25 09, 10:20 PM |

I don't pay a huge amount of attention to the length of a book - in fact if it's good, the longer the better. A couple that do stand out (mostly because I recall them being physically bulky) are 'The Source' by James Michener and the unabridged version of 'The Stand'. Reply #245. Aug 27 09, 8:47 AM |

I read all 15 of Dickens' novels last year, got to be a bit of a slog towards the end. Yesr before I finally managed to read Ulysses from start to finish, after 30 years of false starts. Been meaning to re-read but haven't just got round to it! Reply #248. Sep 05 09, 9:53 AM |

I don't usually pay attention to how long a book is (I actually favor thicker books) but I'd probably have to say the longest I've read is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. Reply #251. Oct 02 09, 7:53 PM |

The longest book that I have read is "A Suitable Boy" by Vikram Seth. It is over 1300 pages but well worth reading. Reply #252. Nov 16 09, 7:20 PM |

The longest book I've read would be the Lord Of The Rings trilogy - twice! (Including all the stuff about runes and so on.) All 3 books in one, it certainly builds the muscles up carrying that around for months. :) Reply #253. Nov 17 09, 6:50 PM |

I wasn't able to finish "A Suitable Boy". I was the length of a good sized novel into it, about 200 pages, and nothing much had happened yet. It was pleasant enough, but, ah, life's too short. Reply #254. Nov 19 09, 11:11 AM |

Last Year, 2009 it was Against The Day by Thomas Pynchon. Its heavy going with dense historical events intertwined as the narrator travels through time; the references to Tesla and hot-air ballooning around the U.S.A. make it a trying, but interesting read at 1085 pages. I am reading "Pocahantas" right now. It has over 1300 pages. As I have so little time to read, it will probably take me a year to finish. Reply #259. Jan 26 10, 11:15 PM |

I usually don't sit and read a book in one take. The first book I read from cover to cover though was "Tarzan of the Apes". It was intriguing reading for a boy of thirteen. I also did it on a school night. I slobbered on my desk a few times the following day. Reply #260. Jan 26 10, 11:34 PM |
