Subject: 2025 Limited Edition - In the Balance

Posted by: WesleyCrusher
Date: Jan 07 25

One year ends, a new one begins. And with that, we have a new theme. For many, things are looking to be even more at a turning point than they were the past years. All could be lost - or all could be gained. We'll go with the latter and inject a dose of balance, togetherness and, most importantly, hope, into the situation.

The songs for this year were chosen by ponycargirl, who has been the most active contributor to the 2024 challenge.

THE TIMES, THEY ARE A-CHANGIN'

link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I20JB2WiQQs

Come gather 'round, people, wherever you roam
And admit that the waters around you have grown
And accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth saving
And you better start swimmin' or you'll sink like a stone
For the times, they are a-changin'

Come writers and critics who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide, the chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon, for the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who that it's namin'
For the loser now will be later to win
For the times, they are a-changin'

Come senators, congressmen, please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway, don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt will be he who has stalled
Your old road is rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one if you can't lend your hand
For the times, they are a-changin'

The line, it is drawn, the curse, it is cast
The slow one now
will later be fast
As the present now will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin'
And the first one now will later be last
For the times, they are a-changin'

(Note: To keep within the desired length for the community challenge and not make things too hard, this song has been shortened a from its original five to four verses. The cut lines might also possibly be a slight bit controversial.

If you would rather write a title taken from the cut segments for your badge, we will allow you to do so, but only once at least one full verse of the four above is complete. Genius Lyrics is considered the authoritative source for the wording.

Up to the community when you want to unlock this - the "lost" lines will not count towards the community score in any way)

HOPE FOR THE FUTURE

link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUjptEZxCzs

Some hope for the future
Some
wait for the call
To say that the days ahead
Will be the best of all

We will build bridges
Up to the sky
Heavenly lights surrounding
You and I

From out of the darkness
Our future will come
If we leave the past behind
We'll fly beyond the sun

We'll be together
Sharing the load
Watching in wonder as our lives unfold

Hope for the future
It's coming soon enough

How much can we achieve?
Hope for the future
It will belong to us
If we believe

Hope shines brightest in the dark
When nothing's ever seen
Lighting undiscovered places
No one's ever been

The rules:

- Quotes must be full, exact words.
- You may change punctuation and capitalization and you can work across lines.
- Each title may be used only once for credit, but titles can overlap or you could even use a subset of a title already used.
- You can use any category or quiz format. You could even make a crossword if you want.
- You can participate via team and co-authored quizzes, but you need to submit a total of SEVEN questions over one or more quizzes to qualify for the badge (if two people want to evenly split a 15Q quiz, go ahead!). Or author one crossword, those don't have multi-author options.
- The challenge will be judged like any other title-based challenge, so your title must reasonably fit the quiz. This call is (as always) made by the editor who places your quiz online.

And, because it's all about , there's again a community challenge involved in this - it's about fully completing both songs. Repeated lines or phrases of course need to be covered only once. (I removed multiple instances of the chorus so we'll get a more exact progress count)

Conjunctions, articles and so on are free.

It's strongly recommended (but not required) that you claim your title before writing just to make sure no one else will use the same title. And please, before you write, check that you're not duplicating something another author is already working on.

The challenge is open until the end of the year - you must make a first submit within 2025. You can of course do more than one title if you wish to help with the community aspect, but there's no tiers on this - you get it for one quiz just the same as for ten.

The badge for this can be seen here: link https://www.funtrivia.com/chalinfo.cfm?id=-194&addheader=1

I was so tempted by the phrase, "Hope for the future" but I'm not going to claim that.

Instead, could I please take "Come senators, congressmen." My contribution will be a crossword puzzle. I think the importance of having strong leadership that encompasses all peoples will be evident in 2025 and going forward. Thanks.

I will take "Writers and critics who prophesize with your pen". Leaving the Come because it makes the title awfully long to include it, and hoping someone else will be able to use it. The year is young - I might even do so myself.
