Subject: Who Am I

Who is happy with the latest Who Am I? being changed into a daily game instead of an hourly game? I really miss playing this game hourly. How do you feel?

Don't know if I've posted this in the right thread, but I'm sure I'll be told if it's not!

I don't like the new version very much. The game should have been given a chance as a daily game with the Champions division. I think it was the same players winning it over and over again what kept people from playing the game.

Nor me. I used to play it a lot. I cut what I was playing right down to the - er - bone for the last few months but now I'm sleeping again, and getting a modicum of energy back, I've started playing Who am I? regularly and it does seem odd that I can only do it once a day.

I agree about the same old people winning it: I was one of them. Right at the beginning, probably because we're exposed to American culture more than Americans seem to be exposed to ours, we in Britain had a bit of an advantage, and you'd find that most of the people on the early leaderboards were British. We liked that. (It almost made up for all the questions about what's the official state sandwich or where did some sporty person go to college.) That's not happening now that there are so many more people in the database, from a lot of different countries.

I agree that a Champion's division is a good idea - perhaps it's in the pipeline.

I didn't mind the same people winning regularly. I used to be at the top of WAI during most daytime hours until I made the tougher division (at level 41 I think). It took me awhile, but eventually I started placing near the top of the tougher division as well.

And Lesley--you are not alone. Us NYers could care less about identifying some random state gem or state bird! But then again, I admit to being quite ethnocentric. :)

I wish we had a vote, as I really liked Who Am I as an hourly game. Though it is nice to see my name on the "Whozit Point" leader list.

I like the changes, because I am doing better in the game, now. I hated the old game, I could never win. I was always beaten out by the same players. And I was put right in the toughest competition when the game started, which I didn't like, because I'm not that good at the game, anyway. I like being able to choose the easy mode and get at least 14 right. ;-)

I'm quite happy with a Champions division, especially now there are only two of them, and that will solve the problem of the same people winning all the time BUT... I miss playing hourly. I only became a Gold Member so I could play WAI hourly, it was absolutely my favourite game on FT. I had a break while I was doing Hardcore but just as I was starting to play again, it's been made a daily game for everyone, not just non-GMs. There seems no rhyme or reason for it either.

I liked the old version better. It wasn't because I won it a lot. I just liked playing the game hourly. It was fun trying to figure out the ones I wasn't familiar with and as far as anyone winning a lot I always figure if you want to be the best you got to beat the best. I'm more then willing though to give the daily version some time and see how it goes in the long run.

I prefer the new version; I know it is very popular and people want to play it hourly, but think of the editor.

I also like the option of 'easy' or 'hard'; as I play it most days I go for the latter option.

I would have preferred if it had stayed an hourly game but with a champions league - it's a game I really like to play but it was difficult to do well in because of all the seasoned players. I still play it but hang out for it to come around every 24 hours :)

There are some real interesting answers in this thread. I have a feeling in the long run from reading them in the long run everything will be fine with everyone.

I'm in the same boat as agony.

I had completely stopped playing the game, just not wanting to get dragged into a competition won by volume of play (I quit playing hourly games completely). But now, I'm glad to see WAI as a daily game and I play it every day.

bubbatom1,

"Don't know if I've posted this in the right thread, but I'm sure I'll be told if it's not!"

This IS the correct board for this discussion. These topics were previously posted on the General Board, and we are attempting to steer all quiz and badge related topics to the FT Specific Board.

I liked it as an hourly game - mainly because I tended to score quite well on it.

Who am I will remain a daily game.

Participation has skyrocketed since the change to a daily game.

Rats! However, the majority seems satisfied with Who Am I? as a daily game so I'll just carry on doing the daily game(Sigh).

Participation may have rocketed because it's now a team game, not because it's daily...

I would imagine it's rocketed because it's a daily AND a team game. Players want to score for their team... Players also want to play Who Am I, but every hour is just too much, because this is a tough game! I know that personally I started playing it again because it became a daily, NOT because it became a team game.

If you'd notice, only hard and champ levels get scored for the team, but the majority play easy, so it can't be for the team reason why they play. :-)
