Subject: Heal the World - 2021 Limited badgelet

Posted by: WesleyCrusher
Date: Jan 20 21

With 2020 now being history, we are looking forward to a hopefully brighter 2021. With the pandemic still raging, it didn't start out on the most auspicious note, but we are sure it will get better and everyone can do their part to make that come true, one small contribution at a time.

Along this vein, we have decided to build on the Gateway and have a limited edition themed authoring challenge every year. 2021's motto will be Heal the World - and you can take that any way you want.

Basically, what we want is some wide-ranging positivity - things that have made the world a better place or improved life for a large group.

Here are a few suggestions to get your creative juices flowing:

- You could take the "heal" part literally and focus on progress in medicine or wildlife conservation. You could also increase the scale and focus on a successful recovery effort after a disaster or war.

- Pop culture has ample takes on the topic in all media types. From uplifting songs to utopian movies and novels, there should be something for everyone.

- Individuals and initiatives who have strived or are still striving to improve equality, eliminate poverty, raise quality of life and preserve our planet are prime candidates for some extra coverage.

- History often reads like a list of doom, gloom and warfare, why not go against the trend and focus on a peace treaty or other positive resolution of a conflict?

- Most religions contain messages of salvation reaching beyond the individual believer. Enlighten the world by bringing them to our attention.

- Last but not least, you could also look at how everyone can contribute to a better world in daily life. Wouldn't this be a great opportunity to maybe get a quiz credit in the For Children category?

This is a very open-ended challenge and you can make a lot of topics fit. Remember, however, that your quiz should project the message - so the more unconventional your take, the more you'll have to do in your presentation to ensure you're getting that positive vibe right.

As a special community challenge by yours truly - can we (as a group) manage to get at least one quiz for each of the 20 categories into the mix? A few might be slightly tougher (Geography, Sports and Celebrities for example might not be immediate candidates), but I don't see them as impossible.

As a note for those who've taken part in the Gateway, there will be one change this year: We won't give the keys just to those who join the club. We want to, after all, give something to the world at large, so you can expect all approved entries to prominently feature in a quiz list or challenge once the year is over.

This challenge will remain open until the last second of 2021, FunTrivia time - having your quiz submitted by then is good enough. Badge awarding is manual and you need to post in this thread to claim credit. Spread the word!

*Last checked and awarded up to post 195 - 63 winners so far*

Thank you for creating a challenge that extended me beyond my capabilities, Wes. One of the most difficult quizzes to I have had to write to meet my own expectations and the challenge requirements

Thanks, Wes. This was a great challenge.

Will there be one for 2022?

there are 20 categories but only one quiz per category - where are the other forty-six quizzes?

christiebohne... If you read through both this challenge, and the 'Mend' challenge, you should be able to figure out where to find everything you need.

This thread will help you find all the quizzes, of which there are more than 35.

I found six or seven that are not on the list in the header by making just one click from this page. You should be able to find them too. This is meant to be a helpful hint :)

It's called a scavenger hunt. Part of the challenge is finding the quizzes. That said, you have been given plenty of hints by several players.

Every single one of the 66 quizzes on this challenge is on the thread.

As the discussions here add some value, we chose to have players actually go through the thread and play from here. (We did, however, lower the number of quizzes you need to play - normally you'd need 62 or 63 on a scavenger that has a 66 strong list; this one only needs 55).

One of the quizzes I played said I had not achieved the correct number of right answers for that quiz to be counted. I can return to try another day. I can't see as anywhere in the game instructions how many right answers in each quiz you need for a quiz to be counted toward the 55 required.
Could someone please let me know this.
Thank you.

I don't know for sure on this challenge, but typically on challenges it tends to be around 5 or 6 correct, or 50-60% for a 10Q quiz. I have noticed a couple challenges with higher numbers correct required though... but that may just be for Daily Challenges.

As for the minimum number of correct answer, I got credit for quizzes in which I scored 5/10, I'm guessing that's where the line was drawn.

I like getting credit for a quiz I've written, it means I won't make a fool of myself if I can't remember the answers!

I just discovered that you have to replay the quizzes on these lists if you've already done them, even if you got all of the questions correct.

Oh, this is a lovely challenge and a fun thing to re-visit. I wish the two challenges linked to each other, though--I had a devil of a time finding this again for more playing, all I could remember was the word "Heal" and that only shows the retired challenge. ah well!
