Subject: Author Challenge Crosswords - COMPLETE

Posted by: kyleisalive
Date: Oct 14 22

You may be familiar with our Author Challenges listing; it shows up from time to time here in the Lounge. But for those who aren't, you can check the list, claim a title, and use it for a quiz of your creation.

While this doesn't work with crosswords, it does allow for some good ideas. For this challenge, we're looking for a dozen crossword puzzles, but each of them should use a title that's currently available in the Author Challenges list. No need to claim it (unless you want to write the quiz as well!), but when your crossword goes online, make note of it here!

As with the quizzes, you can write in any category that makes sense for the name.

Completed Puzzles:
1. You May Say I'm a Schemer!
2. Hebrews: Biblical Hall of Faith
3. Yes, and...
4. More Than Wyrds
5. Like a Rolling Scone
6. Bye or Cell
7. Are You a Dog Person or a Cat Person?
8. Fatal Subtraction
9. There's Something in My Coffee
10. Words With Triple Letters
11. What Did Elon Do Now?
12.Please Be Gneiss!

Nice idea.

I'm going to have a shot at this title:
"Are You a Dog Person or a Cat Person?"

If we are allowed to contribute a second puzzle to this challenge, I'm about ready with "There's Something in My Coffee!"

Doc, you could even present this second puzzle on a coffee-mug shaped grid.

I’m a CW newbie, I have no idea how to do a shaped grid! Plus I already prepped this one. I’m of course willing to learn if you can provide guidance! I assume you draw the grid within the standard square, and in this case symmetry isn’t necessary. Seems like you would end up with a more American style with multiple crosses? Would be hard to avoid two letter words making the handle of a mug, also. The house idea is a little more straightforward.

Afraid I'm unable to offer you any guidance pusdoc, although I've compiled a fair number of CW's.

Personally, I don't warm to the idea of shaped grids, to me it's a total anathema of crossword creation, and should perhaps come under a quite different category. However, that's just my personal opinion.

I agree with your view that it may be necessary to include a number of the dreaded two letter words to provide a meaningful shape.

Hopefully others can provide you with the guidance you are seeking?
