Subject: NEW GAME: AUTHOR GALLERY

Posted by: Terry
Date: Dec 20 22

Trident and I are putting together a new fun collectible artwork game to go along with authoring.

Each month we will present a "painting" that you can earn and display in your own personal art gallery. Over time you can collect and gather more and more works of art.

The limited time January 2023 painting will only be available for that month, never to appear again on FunTrivia.

HOW TO EARN:

Each month there will be 3 mini-challenges that will change month to month. ex. "author a sports quiz" or "author a photo quiz" or "complete an authoring title challenge".

Complete ONE of these mini-challenges during the month on ONE quiz submission and you will earn the painting... unframed. Complete ALL THREE mini-challenges spanning at least 2 different quizzes that you create in that month and you will get the painting with a lovely frame.

Examples: Complete mini-challenges #1 and #2 on quiz 1, and #3 on quiz 2. Or, submit one quiz that satisfies all three #1 #2 #3 and a second quiz on any topic. Or, one quiz that does #1, a second that does #2, and a third that does #3.

Here is a sneak peak at how it works, and what you can aim for starting January 1, 2023:

TIMING:

For the January painting, only quiz templates you create (or adopted) from January 1 to January 31 will be considered.

BUT: you get up to a month's grace period to get the quiz(zes) online, to take into account the variable editing process. So a quiz you create January 17th, but that goes online February 19th still counts for (only) January's painting.

"Can I claim the image with my first quiz, and the come back later when I think I have earned a frame, or do I need to wait and make a single claim?

Also, the template for January needs to be set up in January, and has to go online sometime in January or February. But does the first submission need to be in January, with the extra time only allowing for any delays in editing (either because of the vagaries of the editing queue, or because resubmission was required), or can it be submitted in the next month? I don't plan to play with fire this way, just want to be sure I am clear on the parameters."

I am not sure about these issues on the programming side of things, but I have noticed that two quizzes I have created in January (one photo, one adopted) have registered as helping to meet the requirements. So I guess things are working in that sense. I think Terry will have a chance to explain more of these nuances as the month continues.

Hi everyone, and happy new year to all!

I'm in for this challenge, in the next few days I'll start with some new projects.
I haven't ventured into History quizmaking yet, so this is a good incentive to try myself at it.

I'm coding the awarding of this as we go. As soon as someone has a quiz online that meets one or more requirement please let me know and ill test the system on your account.

I like that the requirements are now listed next to the quizzes. I have a photo quiz in the queue right now. I'll let you know once it's online.

My photo quiz just went online. Let me know if you need me to do anything on my end for testing purposes.

Painting awards should now be working correctly in theory.

Have a quiz online fulfilling Req 1 and 3 (and noting as much). Does the painting get rewarded automatically? Do we need to click somewhere to collect it?

My first quiz met requirements # 1 & 3 and my second quiz #2. The system didn't grant the unframed painting after the first quiz but after the second quiz went up and all three requirements were met a framed Vermeer was granted. I see some other FT players have an unframed one so I guess it's working as intended now. This is a great idea, thank you to all the editors and creative folks that made this possible.

I'm hoping Starry Night will be one of the paintings

Are the paintings only visible to the authors who win them?

Nine people with framed paintings so far.

I'm twiddling my thumbs trying to guess what February's requirements will be.

I'd love to see a Reynolds or a Gainsborough.

Okay, I give up. I have looked on the profiles of several of people that should have been awarded the painting. Where on their profiles exactly does the profile appear?

On the main profile page, section "Quizzes and Games" there's a link to (player's) Authoring Art Gallery. It's right below the link to their Author Page.

Thank you, Liz. I was looking at their badges.

I love Vermeer's paintings. Although "Girl with a pearl earring" may be his best known painting, it is atypical. Vermeer normally painted indoor scenes. If anyone is ever in New York City and doesn't have the three days the Metropolitan Museum of Art really needs, I recommend the Frick Collection. Every room will transport you into a new era of beauty. Even the books in the library are interesting. It also has three Vermeers. Best of all, every thing can be seen in a few hours. Young children are not allowed.

Why does the Met need three days? It's huge! You need that time to find the hidden gems such as the musical instruments and the horse in a suit of armor.
